Unlocking the potential of stimuli‐responsive liquid crystal polymer bio‐interfaces for adaptive cell modulation

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective discusses the potential of stimuli‐responsive liquid crystal polymer bio‐interfaces in modulating cell behavior as next generation dynamic artificial scaffolds. Unlike current artificial biomaterials that have static properties, LCPs offer fast, reversible, and spatially programmable deformation that reflects the dynamic properties of ...

Acid‐ and Nucleophile‐Gated Photoisomerization of Phosphaindirubin

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 10, 2 March 2026.
Triply gated isomerization: In polar solvents, a phosphorus‐containing indirubin photoswitch undergoes visible‐light‐driven Z→E isomerization only when protonated, and reverts thermally via nucleophile‐catalyzed back‐isomerization. This three‐way control by light, acid, and nucleophile enables reversible photoisomerization.

Light‐Modulated Humidity Sensing in Spiropyran Functionalized MoS2 Transistors

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A hybrid material combining molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and spiropyran for humidity and light responsiveness is developed. Ultraviolete (UV) irradiation tunes the wettability of MoS2 decorated by spiropyran, enhancing the humidity sensitivity. Water adsorption and photochromic doping significantly alter the optoelectronic properties of MoS2 flakes ...

Photo‐Modulated Proton Transport in Merocyanine Metastable‐State Photoacid Based Polymers

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The covalent incorporation of merocyanine metastable‐state photoacid into soft polymers imparts conductivity to otherwise insulating matrices, allowing light‐triggered control of charge and structure, offering a new platform for photo‐responsive, ion‐conducting materials.

A flexible arched artificial photoreceptor constructed by photodeformable liquid crystal polymers and its application in vision restoration

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
A flexible arched artificial photoreceptor with high stability and biocompatibility was fabricated by integrating liquid crystal polymers with polyvinylidene fluoride‐trifluoroethylene. This device exhibits robust photoelectric responses under low‐intensity illumination and demonstrates efficacy in restoring visual responses in blind rats following ...

Machine Learning Accelerated Global Search for Adsorption Geometries of Merocyanine Molecule on Hexagonal Boron Nitride

open access: yesJournal of Computational Chemistry, Volume 47, Issue 6, March 5, 2026.
Schematic illustration of HB238 adsorption on hBN(001) explored using Bayesian optimization and a MACE potential. The workflow accelerates potential‐energy‐surface exploration while retaining DFT‐level accuracy for molecular adsorption. ABSTRACT The adsorption of the merocyanine dye HB238 on hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) was investigated using a ...
