Cyclic Azobenzene‐BODIPY Hybrids
Chemistry – A European Journal, 2023AbstractCyclic azobenzene‐BODIPY hybrids were synthesized via cyclization by 1) acid‐catalysed condensation of azobenzene‐bridged dipyrroles with 3,5‐di‐tert‐butylbenzaldehyde, 2) oxidation with DDQ, and 3) metalation with BF3 ⋅ Et2O. The structures of many cyclic hybrids have been confirmed by single crystal X‐ray analysis.

Design of Azobenzene beyond Simple On-Off Behavior.
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2021Azobenzenes are without a doubt the most widely used light-induced switching units, and there is a plethora of application examples ranging from supramolecular chemistry to material science and biological chemistry.

Photoresponsive Dendritic Azobenzene Peptides
ChemBioChem, 2001Two dendritic peptides containing a branched lysine core and up to eight azobenzene moieties in the periphery were synthesized on solid support employing the omega-amino acid 4-(aminomethyl)phenylazobenzoic acid. With an additional peptidic tail consisting of an oligolysine portion, water solubility was achieved for the dendrimers, which allowed for ...

Photodeformable Azobenzene‐Containing Liquid Crystal Polymers and Soft Actuators
Advances in Materials, 2019Photodeformable liquid crystal polymers (LCPs) that adapt their shapes in response to light have aroused a dramatic growth of interest in the past decades, since light as a stimulus enables the remote control and diverse deformations of materials.

Kinetics of photo-isomerization of azobenzene containing surfactants.
Journal of Chemical Physics, 2020We report on photoisomerization kinetics of azobenzene containing surfactants in aqueous solution. The surfactant molecule consists of a positively charged trimethylammonium bromide head group, a hydrophobic spacer connecting via 6 to 10 CH2 groups to ...

Mechano-isomerization of azobenzene
Chemical Communications, 2013We show that ultrasound-induced mechanical force isomerizes an azobenzene centered within a poly(methyl acrylate) polymer from cis to trans configuration without cleaving the azo bond. The isomerization rate was not altered by the polarity of the solvent indicating that the isomerization occurs through a non-polar, inversion transition state.

Azobenzene-based Linker Strategy for Selective Activation of Antibody-Drug Conjugates.
Angewandte ChemieExisting antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) linkers, whether cleavable linkers or non-cleavable linkers, are designed to release highly toxic payloads or payload derivatives once ADCs are internalised into cells. However, clinical studies have shown that only

Green-Light-Triggered Phase Transition of Azobenzene Derivatives toward Reversible Adhesives.
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2019Studies on the azobenzene derivative based phase transitions mostly rely on photoisomerization, which require a long time to spontaneously revert back.

Enthalpies of formation of cis-azobenzene and trans-azobenzene
The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 1992The standard (p° = 0.1 MPa) molar enthalpy of formation of crystalline trans-azobenzene was determined from its enthalpy of combustion in oxygen at 298.15 K measured by static-bomb calorimetry. The enthalpy of isomerization: ΔisomH°m(cr, cis → trans)/(kJ · mol−1) = -(49.1 ± 1.0), was measured by reaction-solution calorimetry: the isomerization was ...
