A strained macrocycle consisting solely of azulene subunits, named [6]cycloparaazulenylene ([6]CPA), is presented. The macrocycle exhibits a notably narrow HOMO–LUMO gap for a pristine azulene species, strain‐induced red‐shifted absorption, and an unusual tubular packing motif elucidated via single‐crystal XRD.

Linearly Expanded Azulenes in the S 0 , T 1 , and Qu 1 States: A Unified View of Electronic Structure and Aromaticity. [PDF]
Linear expansion of azulene leads to markedly different electronic behavior from that of the corresponding acenes, including an earlier emergence of open‐shell character. Simple resonance structures provide an intuitive framework for understanding these trends and their evolution with molecular size.

Magnetoelectric Coupling on the Fused Azulene Oligomers [PDF]
The global magnetic phase diagram for fused azulene oligomers is obtained by using a fermionic Hubbard Hamiltonian, a intermediate model between the molecular (Pariser-Parr-Pople empiric Hamiltonian) and spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg approaches ...

Influence of Environmental Fluctuations on Quantum Interference in Naphthalene and Azulene
Both naphthalene and azulene have the same number of carbon and hydrogen atoms, but the former is an alternant hydrocarbon and the latter is a nonalternant hydrocarbon. This leads to a large difference in their electronic and transport properties. Herein,

Helical Graphene Nanostructures Embedded with an Azulene Cluster [PDF]
An azulene cluster is a structural defect of graphenes, and it alters the electronic, magnetic, and structural properties of graphenes and graphene nanoribbons.

Azulene-Based BN-Heteroaromatics
Azulene, a nonalternant bicyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, has unique chemical and physical properties and is considered to be a promising building block for constructing novel polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heteroaromatics.

Quinolone and quinoline derivatives are frequently found as substructures in pharmaceutically active compounds. In this paper, we describe a procedure for the synthesis of azuleno[2,1-b]quinolones and quinolines from 2-arylaminoazulene derivatives, which
