B-Spline Approximation of a Closed Surface

IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis, 1987
A method to approximate a closed surface in \(R^ 3\) is presented. The authors express the surface which has to be starlike in spherical coordinates r, \(\phi\), \(\theta\). Then \(r=r(\phi,\theta)\) is approximated by (tensor product) bicubic splines.

RECURSIVELY GENERATED B-SPLINE SURFACES

Computer-Aided Design, 1984
The paper reports the progress of an SERC sponsored project on recursive subdivision over arbitrary topologies. The limit surface is generally a standard B-spline surface except at the so called ‘extraordinary points’ where, it is reported, tangent plane continuity can be guaranteed and discrepancies in the curvature can be confined to 10% or less. The

Dynamic rational B-spline surfaces

Computer-Aided Design, 1990
Abstract The rationale for the development of a constant performance incremental algorithm for the dynamic real-time modification of B-spline surfaces is presented. Pseudocode for the complete algorithm is presented. Implemented in software, the algorithm is capable of dynamic real-time modification of B-spline surfaces using moderately capable ...

Surface reconstruction with triangular b-splines

Geometric Modeling and Processing, 2004. Proceedings, 2004
This paper presents a modeling technique for reconstructing a triangular B-spline surface from a set of scanned 3D points. Unlike existing surface reconstruction methods based on tensor-product B-splines which primarily generate a network of patches and then enforce certain continuity (usually, G/sup 1/ or C/sup 1/) between adjacent patches, our ...

Representing PDE surfaces in terms of B-splines

CAD Computer Aided Design, 1990
The paper discusses a technique for expressing PDE surfaces in terms of B-splines. The surface is obtained not as exact solution of the original boundary value problem but they have the virtue of being genuine tensor- product surfaces, which have B-splines as their basis functions.

B-spline Surface Reconstruction by Inverse Subdivisions

2009 IEEE-RIVF International Conference on Computing and Communication Technologies, 2009
This paper presents a method to reconstruct a B-spline surface from a quadrangular mesh, using an inverse Catmull-Clark subdivision. We want to minimize the surface contraction due to the approximating subdivision scheme. We introduce geometrical operations which minimize the impact of the subdivision approximation and can be used in the parametric ...

Interpolation with hybrid B-spline surfaces

Computers & Graphics, 1994
Abstract A notion of hybrid surface is presented. The surface is determined by interpolating values taken by hyperbolic paraboloids generated by a net of data points and provides an alternative to the problem of creating an interpolating surface with local control.
