B-spline Curves and Surfaces

1995
In this chapter we define nonrational B-spline curves and surfaces, study their properties, and derive expressions for their derivatives. For brevity we drop the word nonrational for the remainder of this chapter. The primary goal is to acquire an intuitive understanding of B-spline curves and surfaces, and to that end the reader should carefully study

B-SPLINE CURVES AND SURFACES

1974
Publisher Summary An example of a highly successful computerized design system is Systeme UNISURF, which was developed by P.Bezier at Regie Renault. The essence of the success of Bezier's system is that it combines modern approximation theory and geometry in a way that provides the designer with computerized analogs of his conventional design and ...

Approximating surfaces of revolution by nonrational B-splines

IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 2003
We present a method to approximate surfaces of revolution with nonrational B-splines requiring a modest number of control points in the range of engineering tolerances.

Generalized B-spline surfaces of arbitrary topology

ACM SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics, 1990
B-spline surfaces, although widely used, are incapable of describing surfaces of arbitrary topology. It is not possible to model a general closed surface or a surface with handles as a single non-degenerate B-spline. In practice such surfaces are often needed.

Convex B-spline surfaces

Computer-Aided Design, 1981
Abstract This paper gives a definition for the convexity of B-spline surfaces and points out the conditions, on which the convexity depends. A back shift smoothing method is introduced. This method is built on the basis of the convexity conditions. Application of this smoothing method gives a strictly convex curve.

B-spline surface fitting to mesh vertices

Science China Information Sciences, 2016

Segmentation by Smoothing B-Spline Active Surface

2006 International Conference on Image Processing, 2006
In this paper, a new active surface based segmentation algorithm is proposed. We detail the regularization process that is conducted through a smoothing B-spline filtering of the mesh point displacements. The corresponding segmentation algorithm is presented and applied on medical data.
