A COMPARISON OF MIXED MODEL SPLINES FOR CURVE FITTING
Summary Three types of polynomial mixed model splines have been proposed: smoothing splines, P‐splines and penalized splines using a truncated power function basis.

Abstract In a large sample of adult crab‐eating macaques, we quantified sexual dimorphism in size, shape, and covariance across the whole skull and among anatomical regions of the cranium and mandible. All regions showed significant mean sex differences, but the magnitude of size and shape dimorphism varied substantially.

Computational fluid dynamics simulations of airflow through the nasal passages of rhinolophoid bats
Abstract The nasal passages of bats that emit their echolocation call through their nostrils have adapted for sound emission as well as standard respiratory and olfactory functions. Rhinolophids, hipposiderids and rhinonycterids all use a high duty cycle (HDC) echolocation strategy.

Superconvergence properties of quintic interpolatroy splines
Let Q be a quintic spline with equi-spaced knots on [a,b] interpolating a given function y at the knots. The parameters which determine Q are used to construct a piecewise defined polynomial P of degree six.

Abstract The cortical bone structure of long bone diaphyses changes throughout growth via skeletal modeling and has important implications for bone strength and structural integrity. Ontogenetic trends in diaphyseal structure have been identified in both chimpanzees and humans but it is not yet clear how these trends compare given notable differences ...

Interlacing property for B-splines
The well-known Markov interlacing property for pears of polynomials to the case of polynomial \(B\)-splines is generalized. It is proved that if the interior knots of two \(B\)-splines interlace, then the zeros of their derivatives of any order also interlace. Moreover, the monotonicity property for polynomial \(B\)-splines is established. According to

Purpose To investigate whether prophylactic use of low‐molecular‐weight heparin (enoxaparin) after knee arthroscopy reduces the incidence of symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE) compared with no postoperative pharmacological prophylaxis. Methods We conducted a population‐based cohort study using linked national insurance and hospital data from ...

ON SOME GENERALIZATIONS OF B-SPLINES
In this article, we consider some generalizations of polynomial and exponential B-splines. Firstly, the extension from integral to complex orders is reviewed and presented. The second generalization involves the construction of uncountable families of self-referential or fractal functions from polynomial and exponential B-splines of integral and ...

We conducted a longitudinal trial across nursery, growing, and finishing phases, showing that phytochemical supplementation as a potential antibiotic alternative reduced potential pathogens and promoted beneficial Lactobacillus amylovorus in the nursery phase, and enriched amino acid and carbohydrate metabolism pathways (prediction) during finishing ...

CONVERSION BETWEEN T-SPLINES AND HIERARCHICAL B-SPLINES
T-splines is a recently developed surface modelling technique which is a generalization of B-splines and allows true local refinement. Another well established method supporting local refinement is hierarchical B-splines.
