Toward a Definition of the Matter in Philosophy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
The definition of the matter which is still in use today is based on the method of formation of general notions proposed in his time by John Locke In doing so the matter is regarded not as something sensually existing but as a distraction from the ...

Protective Effect of Simplicillium sp. Ethyl Acetate Extract against High Glucose‐Induced Oxidative Stress in HUVECs

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
This study aimed at investigating the cytoprotective effect of an ethyl acetate extract of insect fungi against high glucose‐ (HG‐) induced oxidative damage in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). An insect fungus strain termed CH180672 (CH) was found for protecting HUVECs from HG‐induced damage.

The importance of thiamine (vitamin B1) in plant health: From crop yield to biofortification

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2020
Ensuring that people have access to sufficient and nutritious food is necessary for a healthy life and the core tenet of food security. With the global population set to reach 9.8 billion by 2050, and the compounding effects of climate change, the planet

THE HUMAN GOVERNANCE PROBLEM: COMPLEX SYSTEMS AND THE LIMITS OF HUMAN COGNITION [PDF]

open access: yesFilozofia i Nauka, 2023
The impact of complexity within government and societal systems is considered relative to the limitations of human cognitive bandwidth, and the resulting reliance on cognitive biases and systems of automation when that bandwidth is exceeded.

Aflatoxin B1 and M1: Biological Properties and Their Involvement in Cancer Development

open access: yesToxins, 2018
Aflatoxins are fungal metabolites found in feeds and foods. When the ruminants eat feedstuffs containing Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), this toxin is metabolized and Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) is excreted in milk.

SR-B1 Drives Endothelial Cell LDL Transcytosis via DOCK4 to Promote Atherosclerosis

open access: yesNature, 2019
Atherosclerosis, which underlies life-threatening cardiovascular disorders such as myocardial infarction and stroke1, is initiated by passage of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol into the artery wall and its engulfment by macrophages, which leads

Cyclin B1 scaffolds MAD1 at the kinetochore corona to activate the mitotic checkpoint

open access: yesEMBO Journal, 2020
Cyclin B:CDK1 is the master kinase regulator of mitosis. We show here that, in addition to its kinase functions, mammalian Cyclin B also scaffolds a localised signalling pathway to help preserve genome stability. Cyclin B1 localises to an expanded region

Nuclear peripheral chromatin-lamin B1 interaction is required for global integrity of chromatin architecture and dynamics in human cells

open access: yesProtein & Cell, 2020
The eukaryotic genome is folded into higher-order conformation accompanied with constrained dynamics for coordinated genome functions. However, the molecular machinery underlying these hierarchically organized three-dimensional (3D) chromatin ...

Microfluidic paper device for rapid detection of aflatoxin B1 using an aptamer based colorimetric assay

open access: yesRSC Advances, 2020
Contamination of milk by mycotoxins is a serious problem worldwide. Herein, we focused on the detection of aflatoxin B1 (AflB1) using a paper microfluidic device fabricated with specific aptamers as biorecognition elements.
