Fabrication and characterization of B4C nanowires and dense B4C ceramic/nanowires composite

open access: yes, 2012
The superior properties of boron carbide (B4C), such as high melting point, extreme hardness (ranking third after diamond and cBN), low density, good thermal and chemical resistance properties, have made it a promising material for ceramic armor applications.

Preparation of B4C-Al and B4C-Al-CNT Composite Materials by Means of Infiltration

Examination of wear properties of Al/B4C composites reinforced with irregularly shaped B4C

2021
In this study, Boroncarbide (B4C) powders were added as supplemental material to produce aluminum (Al) metal matrix composites (MMC) by mechanical alloying (MA) method. Three different B4C amount (5, 7,5, and 10 wt%) were used and three different temperatures (600, 620, and 640 degrees C) were applied for the sintering of the samples.

Sintering Al2O3-B4C ceramics

Journal of Materials Science, 1983
Microstructural development of Al2O3-B4C composite ceramics has been studied as a function of Al2O3 and B4C powder types, and also in various sintering atmospheres. Boron carbide suppresses the sinterability of Al2O3 powder, and the densification of the composite is strongly dependent on both B4C and Al2O3 properties.
