Distinct Complement Activation Profiles Between NELL1‐ and PLA2R‐Associated Membranous Nephropathy: A Clinicopathological and Proteomic Study

open access: yesNephrology, Volume 31, Issue 10, October 2026.
We compared the clinicopathological features and complement activation profiles of PLA2R‐associated and NELL1‐associated membranous nephropathy. NELL1‐associated membranous nephropathy was associated with older age, more chronic histologic changes and less glomerular C3 and C4d deposition.

Methyl Jasmonate Seed Priming Mitigates the Defence‐Growth Trade‐Off and Tailors Plant Response to Specific Pests

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 10, Page 7558-7574, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Seed defence priming is emerging as a novel, cost‐efficient and environmentally safe tool for pest management. It has been proposed as a means to uncouple the defence‐growth trade‐off in plants by enhancing defence responses with minimal fitness costs, but the mechanisms underlying this role remain elusive.

First records of Boreolithothamnion astragaloi and Boreolithothamnion soriferum (Hapalidiales, Rhodophyta) from Japan with the characterization of Boreolithothamnion japonicum from Hokkaido based on molecular and morpho‐anatomical analyses

open access: yesPhycological Research, Volume 74, Issue 4, Page 318-332, October 2026.
SUMMARY Boreolithothamnion is a non‐geniculate coralline red algal genus distributed in cold to warm temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Since the establishment of the genus in 2023, following the redefinition of the genus Lithothamnion, its species diversity and distribution of Boreolithothamnion in Japan needed to be reassessed.

Persistent endothelial dysfunction is associated with exercise intolerance in adults despite preserved myocardial work 3 years after SARS‐CoV‐2 infection

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 19, October 2026.
Adults with Long COVID exhibited impaired aerobic capacity and persistent endothelial dysfunction despite preserved myocardial function approximately 3 years after SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. The association between flow‐mediated dilation (FMD) and exercise capacity suggests a potential contribution of peripheral vascular dysfunction to exercise intolerance.

Spotlight on the Nucleotide: Solid‐State NMR for the Investigation of ATP Hydrolysis in the ATPase SmsC

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 34, 11 September 2026.
Nucleotide‐detected solid‐state NMR has been applied to probe nucleotide conformations and dynamics during ATP hydrolysis using the dimeric P‐loop ATPase SmsC as a model protein. The different stages of ATP hydrolysis have been mimicked by ATP analogues for which different degrees of conformational heterogeneity have been observed. ABSTRACT Solid‐state
