Pediococcus acidilactici PA53 Supplementation Improves Stool Form and Modulates Gut Microbiota and Inflammatory Responses in Adults With Functional Constipation: A Randomized, Double‐Blind, Placebo‐Controlled Trial

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
In this randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial, 8‐week supplementation with Pediococcus acidilactici PA53 significantly improved stool form in adults with functional constipation. PA53 supplementation was associated with changes in inflammatory markers and gut microbiota, including increased Pediococcus abundance.

Gastrodia elata Polysaccharide Attenuates Aging by Modulating Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Gut Microbiota

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Gastrodia elata polysaccharide (GEP) alleviates aging in mice by activating the Nrf2/Keap1 antioxidant signaling, inhibiting the TLR4/NF‐κB‐driven neuroinflammation, remodeling gut microbiota, and restoring intestinal‐barrier integrity. Synergistic regulation of oxidation, inflammation, and gut homeostasis underpins its anti‐aging potential for ...

Complete genome sequences of Cytobacillus sp., Domibacillus sp., Enterobacter sp., Neisseria sp., Pseudomonas sp., and Streptococcus sp. strains from human clinical infections collected at diagnostic units in 2020

open access: yes
Members of Bacillota and Pseudomonadota phyla are frequently considered bacterial infectious agents in humans. As part of a large sequencing project of clinically relevant pathogens, we hybrid-assembled complete genomes of Cytobacillus, Domibacillus ...

Water mass dynamics drive nitrogen fixation rates and diazotroph community composition in the coastal ocean

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Although significant N2 fixation rates (NFRs) have been observed throughout mid‐Atlantic coastal waters, studies have been limited in their temporal coverage, and the methods used to detect nitrogen fixers (diazotrophs) and their findings have varied.

In Vitro Gastrointestinal Digestion and Gut Fermentation of Atlantic Forest Fruit‐Flavored Kombucha: Gut Microbiota Dynamics and Bioactive Compound Bioaccessibility

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 19, 15 October 2026.
Atlantic Forest fruit‐flavored kombucha affects gut microbiota and bioactive compounds during simulated digestion and gut fermentation. Beneficial microorganisms survived digestion, while flavored kombucha showed high antioxidant activity. Fermentation increased short‐chain fatty acids, especially acetate. Gut microbiota changed over time, with effects

Two distinct alcohol dehydrogenase classes mediate bacterial 2‐hydroxyethylphosphonate catabolism

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Phosphonates are molecules containing a direct carbon‐phosphorus bond. In nature, these compounds are produced by a variety of organisms, and many environmental microbes are able to degrade specific phosphonates and feed on them. This work focuses on 2‐hydroxyethylphosphonate (HEP)—a natural compound that is found frequently in the environment,

Universal and Lineage‐Specific Patterns in the Distribution of ECOD Domain Homology Groups Across Superkingdoms

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, Volume 94, Issue 10, Page 1644-1657, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Proteins are built from modular domains that serve as fundamental units of structure and evolution. While individual domains have been extensively cataloged, their collective distribution across the lineages of life has remained poorly resolved.
