Ionic selectivity and thermal adaptations within the voltage-gated sodium channel family of alkaliphilic Bacillus [PDF]
Entry and extrusion of cations are essential processes in living cells. In alkaliphilic prokaryotes, high external pH activates voltage-gated sodium channels (Nav), which allows Na+ to enter and be used as substrate for cation/proton antiporters ...

Nitric oxide production by the human intestinal microbiota by dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium [PDF]
The free radical nitric oxide (NO) is an important signaling molecule in the gastrointestinal tract. Besides eukaryotic cells, gut microorganisms are also capable of producing NO. However, the exact mechanism of NO production by the gut microorganisms is

Amine dehydrogenases (AmDHs) are NAD(P)H‐depended oxidoreductases that rely on NAD(P)H as cofactor to catalyze the reductive amination of carbonyl‐containing compounds in the presence of ammonia. Depending on the catalytic activities of other enzymes as reaction partners, AmDHs find applications in various synthetic pathways, as well as in kinetic ...

Evolution and variation in amide aminoacyl‐tRNA synthesis
Abstract The amide proteogenic amino acids, asparagine and glutamine, are two of the twenty amino acids used in translation by all known life. The aminoacyl‐tRNA synthetases for asparagine and glutamine, asparaginyl‐tRNA synthetase and glutaminyl tRNA synthetase, evolved after the split in the last universal common ancestor of modern organisms.
