Seasonal Baseline Evaluation of Physicochemical Parameters and Culturable Bacterial Characteristics in Northwestern Himalayan Ramsar Sites

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 5, October 2026.
Seasonal monitoring of two Himalayan Ramsar wetlands revealed significant fluctuations in physicochemical parameters and low bacterial diversity across seasons. Elevated dissolved oxygen at Renuka Ji, turbidity and dissolved oxygen at Asan Conservation Reserve levels highlight ecological sensitivity and the need for continuous monitoring and ...

Multifunctional Rhizobacterial Consortia Enhance Growth and Yield of Common Bean Across Field Conditions

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 5, October 2026.
Consortia of plant growth‐promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) enhance the growth and development of common bean plants, improving root system development, nutrient use efficiency and grain yield. These bioinputs reduce dependence on mineral fertilizers and support eco‐efficient agriculture, offering a sustainable alternative in diverse soil and climate ...

A Bacillus Phage From Bangladeshi Soil, Phage APU1: Genomic Characterisation and Comparative Genomic Analysis

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 5, October 2026.
Phage APU1, isolated from Bangladeshi agricultural soil, is a high‐quality, computationally predicted lytic Bacillus phage with a 153,847‐bp genome and no detected antimicrobial resistance or virulence factor genes. Comparative genomics identified APU1 as a genomically distinct member of a related Bacillus phage group.

Associations Between Gut Microbiota and Immune Profiles in Community‐Dwelling Older Adults and the Regulatory Role of Polygonatum odoratum

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2026.
Gut Microbiota‐Immune Associations in Community‐Dwelling Older Adults: Role of Polygonatum odoratum. ABSTRACT Aging is often associated with intestinal microbiota imbalance and immune system degeneration. The dysregulation and crosstalk of these two factors markedly elevate the elderly's susceptibility to infections and age‐related diseases ...

Iterative Genome Engineering Platform Enables Efficient Sucrose Biosynthesis From CO2 in Photosynthetic Synechococcus elongatus UTEX 2973

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 10, Page 5284-5299, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The single crossover occurring via homologous recombination is a common phenomenon existing among microbes like Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Vibrio natriegens, Gluconobacter oxydans and most cyanobacteria species, threatening the stability of engineered strains and challenging iterative genetic engineering. Among them, we take the fast‐
