Archaeal Genes Code for GGDEF Domain Proteins With Diguanylate Cyclase Activity

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
A biofilm‐like mode of growth is hypothesized to be required for the emergence of cellular life. Occurrence of common biofilm gene products in current Bacteria and Archaea is an indication for their previous presence in the last universal common ancestor LUCA and perhaps even in the first universal common ancestor FUCA.

Urban ants as potential mechanical vectors of pathogenic and antibiotic‐resistant bacteria in a Brazilian hospital

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Nine ant taxa were identified in a Brazilian hospital, with Tapinoma melanocephalum and Dorymyrmex brunneus being the most abundant. Eighty‐five percent of collected ants yielded detectable bacterial growth, including clinically relevant genera such as Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas, Escherichia coli and Pluralibacter.

Effects of Asaia spp. on the development, size and associated microbiomes of two mosquito species of medical importance

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Addition of Asaia species to the rearing water of mosquito larvae can affect the structure of the larval microbiome, although these bacteria do not persist to the pupal stage. Asaia inoculation can increase the adult size of males of two mosquito species. The impact of Asaia inoculation on development rate and female size depended on bacterial and host

Deciphering Role of Endophytes in Plant Defences and Biotic Stress Resilience Across Families

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plant families generate distinct repertoires of specialised metabolites that govern their biotic interactions. Endophytes strengthen host plant defence mechanisms and tolerance to biotic challenges by upregulating metabolite biosynthesis, modifying precursor compounds into more potent forms, or by directly synthesising analogous defence ...

Microbial Partnerships for Sustainable Soybean Cultivation: Mechanisms, Applications and Prospects

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soybean production is increasingly threatened by fluctuating environmental conditions and nutrient limitations. While synthetic fertilisers can alleviate these constraints, their excessive use has raised concerns regarding long‐term soil health. Consequently, leveraging beneficial soil microbes, a diverse group of microorganisms that reside in

Rhizosphere Microbiomes Respond to Plant‐Parasitic Nematode Cues and Contribute to Host Defence

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plant‐parasitic nematodes (PPNs) cause major crop losses, while current nematicides face increasing regulatory restrictions and often show inconsistent efficacy. We tested whether nematode‐associated cues activate rhizosphere microbiomes and cuticle‐associated fungi to produce suppressive metabolites that impair nematodes and stimulate host ...
