Tunnel Back Analysis Based on Differential Evolution Using Stress and Displacement
The stability of tunnels has mainly been evaluated based on displacement. Because displacement due to the excavation process is significant, back analysis of the structure and ground can be performed easily. Recently, the length of a segment-lined tunnel

Workplace Accommodations: Low Cost, High Impact [PDF]
[Excerpt] All employees need the right tools and work environment to effectively perform their jobs. Similarly, individuals with disabilities may need workplace adjustments — or accommodations — to maximize the value they can add to their employer ...

Plasticity-Induced Anisotropy in Amorphous Solids: the Bauschinger Effect
Amorphous solids that underwent a strain in one direction such that they responded in a plastic manner `remember' that direction also when relaxed back to a state with zero mean stress.

Back reaction in the formation of a straight cosmic string [PDF]
A simple model for the formation of a straight cosmic string, wiggly or unperturbed is considered. The gravitational field of such string is computed in the linear approximation.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

A possible mechanism for spontaneous cyclic back-arc spreading
Back-arc spreading is a non-steady-state process exemplified by the repeated cycles of spreading of the South Fiji and the Lau Basins behind the Tonga arc, and the Parece Vela Basin and the Mariana Trough behind the Mariana arc.

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Back stress in dislocation creep. Part 1: Basic concepts and measuring techniques [PDF]
A theory is proposed whereby the plastic deformation of metal materials is determined by the difference between the applied stress and the back stress which characterizes the resistance of the material to plastic deformation.
