A robust background subtraction method for changing background
Proceedings Fifth IEEE Workshop on Applications of Computer Vision, 2002Background subtraction is a useful and effective method for detecting moving objects in video images. Since this method assumes that image variations are caused only by moving objects (i.e., the background scene is assumed to be stationary), however, its applicability is limited.

Background subtraction for patterns of activities in cities
2016 First International Workshop on Sensing, Processing and Learning for Intelligent Machines (SPLINE), 2016In this paper we learn patterns of activity in open urban spaces and detect activity outliers that represent events of interest. We do so utilising background suppression to flag people as foreground blobs in videos from city surveillance cameras.

Real-Time Discriminative Background Subtraction
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2011The authors examine the problem of segmenting foreground objects in live video when background scene textures change over time. In particular, we formulate background subtraction as minimizing a penalized instantaneous risk functional--yielding a local online discriminative algorithm that can quickly adapt to temporal changes.

Adaptive ε LBP for Background Subtraction
2011Background subtraction plays an important role in many computer vision systems, yet in complex scenes it is still a challenging task, especially in case of illumination variations. In this work, we develop an efficient texture-based method to tackle this problem.

Interpolative background subtraction.
Journal of nuclear medicine : official publication, Society of Nuclear Medicine, 1976A method for background subtraction is presented. The data are digitized scintigraphic images, stored in 64 X 64 frames. Within this array a rectangular area surrounding the target is defined. All data points outside of this area are set equal to zero. From each data point within the area, the computer subtracts a background value equal to the average ...
