Electron backscattering

Medical Physics, 1980
Although electron backscatter has been a subject of investigation for many years, both theory and experimental data are sparse. This article examines the available data and shows that a large percentage of both the theoretical and experimental values fit an empirical relationship for a large range of electron energies.

Backscatter directivity and integrated backscatter power of arterial tissue

The International Journal of Cardiac Imaging, 1991
A 27 MHz transducer, mounted on an ultrasonic microscope, was used to quantify the dependence of backscatter power on the angle of incidence of arterial vessels. Due to variations in the angle of incidence significant variations in backscatter power were found in the intima, the muscular and elastic media, the adventitia and the external elastic lamina.

Coherent backscattering spectroscopy

Optics Letters, 2004
Coherent backscattering (CBS) of light in random media has been previously investigated by use of coherent light sources. Here we report a novel method of CBS measurement that combines low spatial coherence, broadband illumination, and spectrally resolved detection.

Backscatter signatures of knots

Optics Letters, 1995
We examine the knottedness of a structure through optical or electromagnetic wave scattering as a first step in the investigation of scattering from and propagation through knotted media. Initial investigations demonstrate that the handedness of knots and the degree of knottedness can be deduced from the backscatter signature for the examples ...

On the analysis of backscatter traffic

39th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks Workshops, 2014
This work offers in-depth analysis of three different darknet datasets captured in 2004, 2006 and 2008 to provide insights into the nature of backscatter traffic. Moreover, we analyzed these datasets using two well-known open source intrusion detection systems (IDSs), namely Snort and Bro.

Surface roughness and backscattering

Optics Letters, 1996
Surface roughness is normally considered to be the main cause of attenuation in intergrated-optics glass waveguides. Previous analyses have concentrated on scattering of light into the radiation field; in fact, depending on the roughness length scale, scattering can be predominantly in the backward direction, raising the question of how important the ...

An Overview on Backscatter Communications

Journal of Communications and Information Networks, 2019
As a key low-power communication technique, backscatter communications exploits the reflected or backscattered signals to transmit data, where the backscattered signals can be the reflection of ambient radio frequency (RF) signals, the RF signals from the dedicated carrier emitter or the signal photons in the non-classical quantum entangled pairs, etc.

Coherent backscattering of neutrons

Physical Review B, 1987
We study the effects of multiple scattering on the elastic incoherent cross section of neutron backscattering. The cross section is found to be enhanced within a narrow cone centered around the backscattering direction. An antienhancement of intensities is predicted, provided that spin-flip scattering is dominant.

Cognitive backscatter metasurface

2024 IEEE 25th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)
We study a novel spectrum-sharing paradigm for multicarrier cognitive radio (CR) networks, where the conventional primary system employs an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation scheme, whereas the secondary system is represented by an Internet of Things (IoT) metasurface that concurrently transmits data to a secondary receiver ...
