Surface roughness and backscattering
Optics Letters, 1996Surface roughness is normally considered to be the main cause of attenuation in intergrated-optics glass waveguides. Previous analyses have concentrated on scattering of light into the radiation field; in fact, depending on the roughness length scale, scattering can be predominantly in the backward direction, raising the question of how important the ...

An Overview on Backscatter Communications
Journal of Communications and Information Networks, 2019As a key low-power communication technique, backscatter communications exploits the reflected or backscattered signals to transmit data, where the backscattered signals can be the reflection of ambient radio frequency (RF) signals, the RF signals from the dedicated carrier emitter or the signal photons in the non-classical quantum entangled pairs, etc.

Coherent backscattering of neutrons
Physical Review B, 1987We study the effects of multiple scattering on the elastic incoherent cross section of neutron backscattering. The cross section is found to be enhanced within a narrow cone centered around the backscattering direction. An antienhancement of intensities is predicted, provided that spin-flip scattering is dominant.

Cognitive backscatter metasurface
2024 IEEE 25th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)We study a novel spectrum-sharing paradigm for multicarrier cognitive radio (CR) networks, where the conventional primary system employs an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation scheme, whereas the secondary system is represented by an Internet of Things (IoT) metasurface that concurrently transmits data to a secondary receiver ...

Channeling and Backscatter Imaging
2016While the default imaging mode in HIM uses secondary electrons, backscattered helium or neon contains valuable information about the sample composition and structure. In this chapter, we will discuss how backscattered helium can be used to obtain information about buried structures and provide qualitative elemental contrast.
