A New Method for a Side-Scattering Lidar to Retrieve the Aerosol Backscattering Coefficient [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2020
The side-scattering lidar based on the CCD camera is a powerful tool to measure the near- ground aerosol, which is most interesting for the environmental and meteorological departments. The inversion method for the side-scattering lidar is different from

Computation of the Attenuated Backscattering Coefficient by the Backscattering Lidar Signal Simulator (BLISS) in the Framework of the CALIOP/CALIPSO Observations

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
This paper presents the Backscattering Lidar Signal Simulator (BLISS), an end-to-end lidar simulator developed by the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES). We computed the constant multiple-scattering (MS) coefficient of BLISS with a Monte Carlo (MC)

Spectral dependence of the correlation between the backscattering coefficient and the volume scattering function measured in the southern Baltic Sea

open access: yesOceanologia, 2012
Direct measurements of the backscattering coefficient bb require the determination of the Volume Scattering Function (VSF) and its integration over a backward hemisphere. In sea water they are difficult and are therefore carried out very rarely.

Extraction of Attenuation and Backscattering Coefficient along Hollow-Core Fiber Length Using Two-Way Optical Time Domain Backscattering. [PDF]

open access: yesACS Photonics
Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) is a key technique to characterize fabricated and installed optical fibers. OTDR of emerging Hollow Core Fibers (HCFs) has been demonstrated only very recently, being almost 30 dB weaker than in the glass-core ...

Wheat Water Deficit Monitoring Using Synthetic Aperture Radar Backscattering Coefficient and Interferometric Coherence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Due to the climate change situation, water deficit stress is becoming one of the main factors that threatens the agricultural sector in semi-arid zones.

A new model for the backscatter coefficient in nanoscale MOSFETs [PDF]

open access: yes2010 Proceedings of the European Solid State Device Research Conference, 2010
In this work, we present a new model for the backscatter coefficient in nanoscale MOSFETs. The model assumes that only few backscattering events occur, which is likely to hold for devices with channel length in the order of the carrier mean free path. Both elastic and inelastic scattering mechanisms are accounted for.

Multi-Parameter Inversion of AIEM by Using Bi-Directional Deep Neural Network

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
A novel multi-parameter inversion method is proposed for the Advanced Integral Equation Model (AIEM) by using bi-directional deep neural network. There is a very complex nonlinear relationship between the surface parameters (dielectric constant and ...

A Comparison of the Barrick and Backscatter Ionogram Methods of Calculating Sea Surface Backscatter Coefficients

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
An understanding of land and sea surface backscatter coefficients at high frequencies (HF) is required to accurately assess ionospheric propagation conditions for over-the-horizon radar. In this paper, two methods of calculating sea surface backscatter coefficients are compared.

Microwave Radar Sensing of Sea Waves: An Effective Reflection Coefficient

open access: yesRussian Journal of Earth Sciences, 2023
At the small incidence angles, the dominant backscattering mechanism for sea waves is the quasi-specular backscattering mechanism. The power of the reflected signal depends on the distribution function of the slopes of large-scale waves (in comparison ...
