Effects of acoustic nonlinearities on the ultrasonic backscatter coefficient estimation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2019
The backscatter coefficient (BSC) is a fundamental property of tissues and can be used to classify tissues. Two BSC calibration methods are the planar reflector method and the reference phantom method. In both methods, linear acoustic propagation is assumed.

光源偏振对水体颗粒后向散射系数测量的影响

open access: yes, 2016
Particulate backscattering coefficient is a main inherent optical properties (IOPs) of water, which is also a determining factor of ocean color and a basic parameter for inversion of satellite ocean color remote sensing.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Detection of Peat Fire Risk Area Based on Impedance Model and DInSAR Approaches Using ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 Data

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Forest fire in Indonesia occurs mostly in peatland area. Dry peatland areas with groundwater table (GWT) more than 40 cm from the soil surface have become degradation areas with high potentials to fire.

Seasonal variations of the backscattering coefficient measured by radar altimeters over the Antarctica Ice Sheet

open access: yes, 2017
. Spaceborne radar altimeter is a valuable tool for observing the Antarctica Ice Sheet. The radar wave penetration into the snow provides information both on the surface and the subsurface of the snowpack due to its dependence on the snow properties ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Interlaboratory comparison of backscatter coefficient estimates for tissue-mimicking phantoms [PDF]

open access: yes2009 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium, 2009
Utrasonic backscatter is useful for characterizing tissues and several groups have reported methods for estimating backscattering properties. Previous interlaboratory comparisons have been made to test the ability to accurately estimate the backscatter coefficient (BSC) by different laboratories around the world.

Influence of material surface roughness on backscattering in laser scanning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In this paper, the possibility of applying Kirchhoff 's scalar approximation model for determining the backscattering coefficient from rough surfaces is investigated. Surfaces of dielectric and metallic materials, which have low roughness are considered.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.
