Backscattering coefficient of a perturbed sinusoidal surface
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1984A coherent model for scattering from a randomly perturbed periodic surface is developed using the Kirchhoff approximation. It is intended to model wave scattering from ground surfaces with row directions. Results are illustrated and compared with an incoherent scatter model and measured backscattering angular curves from ploughed fields.

The reflection coefficient in stimulated parmetric backscattering
Journal of Applied Physics, 1977The step-function approximation of the anomalous reflection coefficient in laser-induced parametric backscattering currently used in the theory of nonlinear laser plasma interactions is improved using a simple exponential derived from elliptic functions. The validity of the single-reflection analysis is reaffirmed.

Spectral backscattering coefficient in coastal waters
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2005Based on 186 field observations in the Oslo Fjord of irradiance and radiance and 105 laboratory measurements of beam attenuation, this analysis demonstrates that the ratio between the backscattering coefficient b pb and the scattering coefficient b p of the particles is wavelength dependent and not a constant value.

An empirical equation for the backscattering coefficient of electrons
Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1971Abstract Backscattering coefficient η of monoenergetic electrons impinging normally of the thick target has been found to be expressed by an empirical equation of the form η = a 1 (1 + a 2 τ a3 ) , where τ is the incident kinetic energy in units of the rest energy of the electron, and the parameters ai (i = 1, 2, 3) are given

Absorption coefficients of ozone for the backscatter UV experiment
Applied Optics, 1980Band-averaged absorption coefficients for the wavelength channels of the backscatter ultraviolet (BUV) experiment are computed using the laboratory ozone absorption measurements of several experimenters. For the major ozone-determining channels on the BUV (3125 and 3175 A) the various coefficients ranged from +/-11 to +/-4%, respectively, about the ...

Study of the backscattering coefficient and the interferometric coherence of mangrove forests
IGARSS 2003. 2003 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37477), 2004We propose to use a coherent model in order to compute the backscattering coefficient /spl sigma/ and the interferometric coherence /spl gamma/ of several stands of mangrove forests at P band. At this frequency, we may expect strong coherent effects reflecting the interactions between the ground and the forest scatterers.

Tests of backscatter coefficient measurement using broadband pulses
IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 1993An adaptation to a data reduction method is outlined for determining backscatter coefficients, eta, when broad-bandwidth pulses are employed. The accuracy of these eta values is assessed with well-characterized phantoms, for which backscatter coefficients based on their physical properties have been independently calculated.

Extracting Quantitative Ultrasonic Parameters from the Backscatter Coefficient
2023The ultrasonic backscatter coefficient (BSC) is a fundamental quantitative ultrasound (QUS) parameter that contains rich information about the underlying tissue. Deriving parameters from the BSC is essential for fully utilizing the information contained in BSC for tissue characterization. In this chapter, we review two primary approaches for extracting

Anisotropy of the backscatter coefficient of formalin-fixed ovine myocardium
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007The objective of this study was to measure the backscatter coefficient of formalin-fixed myocardial tissue as a function of angle of insonification relative to the myocardial fiber direction. Backscatter measurements were performed on eight cylindrical formalin-fixed lamb myocardial specimens and compensated for attenuation and diffraction effects to ...

Comarison between the microwave emissivity and backscatter coefficient of crops
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1989After recalling the definitions of some basic quantities measured by active and passive microwave sensors, the interrelations between emission and scattering are discussed. The particular case of a half-space of isotropic scatterers, for which a simple relation between emissivity and backscatter coefficient holds, is considered as a refer ence to ...
