Spectral analysis of echoes for backscattering coefficient measurement

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1985
This paper describes spectral analyses of echoes scattered by a random medium and a plane reflector by using mathematical expressions of echoes which have been proposed by us before [M. Ueda and H. Ichikawa, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 70, 1768–1775 (1981): 75, 1012 (1984)].

Characterisation of surface flatness by the backscattered electron coefficient

Semiconductor Science and Technology, 1992
In scanning electron microscopy the backscattered electron yield has been shown to depend integrally on the specimen surface roughness. This means that if the surface contains many small inhomogeneities with a typical size of a few nanometres or less, then although the signal line remains smooth (without local perturbations), its level increases ...

A measurement of microwave backscattering coefficients of rice plants

International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 'Remote Sensing: Moving Toward the 21st Century'., 1988
An experiment to measure microwave backscattering coefficients of rice plants was carried out with a microwave FM-CW scatterometer. An experiment was carried out in such a manner that the scatterometer was moved on a pair of rails along a rice field and was fixed to observe a selected area in that rice field for some duration.

[Simulation of backscattering coefficients of inland waters].

Huan jing ke xue= Huanjing kexue, 2012
When we simulated backscattering coefficients (b(bp)) using quasi-analytical algorithm and optical closure theory, it was found that the position of reference wavelength (lambda(0)) had great impact on final results. In order to identify influence factors of the optimum lambda(0), datasets of Lake Taihu, Lake Chaohu and Lake Dianchi were used.

Simulation of absolute backscattering coefficient in Field II

2014 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium, 2014
We present a method for the realistic simulation of tissue backscatter in the ultrasound simulation program Field II. The method, based on an application of the Rayleigh speckle model, is implemented as an additional convolution step which appropriately scales and filters RF data to match an arbitrary backscattering coefficient spectrum. We verify that

The effect of scatterer size distribution on the backscatter coefficient.

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
The bias and variance of mean scatterer size estimates made from backscatter coefficients might be reduced by incorporating an estimate of scatterer size distribution into the parameter estimation scheme. Current estimation schemes generally assume a single scatterer size representing the volume-weighted mean diameter of a distribution.

State of the Art Methods for Estimating Backscatter Coefficients

2013
Ultrasound, which is routinely used for diagnostic imaging applications, is mainly qualitative. However, novel quantitative ultrasound techniques are being developed for diagnosing disease, classifying tissue, and assessing and monitoring the application of therapy.
