TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Simulation-aided design of tubular polymeric capsules for self-healing concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Polymeric capsules can have an advantage over glass capsules used up to now as proof-of-concept carriers in self-healing concrete. They allow easier processing and afford the possibility to fine tune their mechanical properties.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Influence of different external liquids on the process outcomes of lactic fermentation in suspended capsules

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions
Encapsulation is an innovative promising technique in the field of biotechnology, both for confining live microorganisms to promote their viability during processing and for the target delivery in the gastrointestinal tract, and for trapping active ...

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Hydrodynamic coupling and rotational mobilities near planar elastic membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We study theoretically and numerically the coupling and rotational hydrodynamic interactions between spherical particles near a planar elastic membrane that exhibits resistance towards shear and bending. Using a combination of the multipole expansion and
