Bacterial Diversity and Community in Response to Long-Term Nitrogen Fertilization Gradient in Citrus Orchard Soils

open access: yesDiversity, 2021
Citrus orchards receive increasing amounts of nitrogen fertilizer for the purpose of optimal yields and good quality of citrus fruits. Although the effects of increased nitrogen fertilizer on citrus fruit trees have been reasonably well studied, few ...

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

The metagenomics of biosilicification: causes and effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In order to determine the links between geochemical parameters controlling the formation of silica sinter in hot springs and their associated microbial diversity, a detailed characterisation of the waters and of in situ-grown silica sinters was combined ...

Bacterial genome size and gene functional diversity negatively correlate with taxonomic diversity along a pH gradient

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Bacterial gene repertoires reflect adaptive strategies, contribute to ecosystem functioning and are limited by genome size. However, gene functional diversity does not necessarily correlate with taxonomic diversity because average genome size may vary by

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

A meta-analysis of the publicly available bacterial and archaeal sequence diversity in saline soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
An integrated view of bacterial and archaeal diversity in saline soil habitats is essential for understanding the biological and ecological processes and exploiting potential of microbial resources from such environments.

Diversity at its best: bacterial taxis [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, 2010
Summary Bacterial taxis is one of the most investigated signal transduction mechanisms. Studies of taxis have primarily used Escherichia coli and Salmonella as model organism.

Diversity, properties and functions of bacterial arginases

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Reviews, 2021
AbstractThe metalloenzyme arginase hydrolyzes l-arginine to produce l-ornithine and urea. In bacteria, arginase has important functions in basic nitrogen metabolism and redistribution, production of the key metabolic precursor l-ornithine, stress resistance and pathogenesis.

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.
