Assessment of bacterial communities of Coptotermes gestroi termite workers attacking Ironwood trees (Casuarina equisetifolia) in Guam for the presence of Ironwood tree decline-associated pathogens

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
The Ironwood tree (Casuarina equisetifolia) holds a significant ecological role in Guam where a decline in Ironwood trees was first documented in 2002.

SuFEx‐Enabled Reprogramming of Flavonoids for Selective α‐Glucosidase Covalent Inhibition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Selective inhibition of intestinal α‐glucosidase remains limited by poor enzyme specificity and off‐target metabolic effects. Here, SuFEx click chemistry is used to reprogram natural flavonoids into covalent inhibitors with enhanced α‐glucosidase selectivity and controlled reactivity. This strategy enables effective regulation of carbohydrate digestion

Discovery and Engineering of a Rat Endogenous Retrovirus Reverse Transcriptase for Efficient Prime Editing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We screened 558 reverse transcriptases and engineered an optimized rat endogenous retrovirus‐derived variant, enRERV‐RT, via structure‐guided engineering and deep mutational scanning. This enhanced prime editor, based on the engineered RT, outperforms conventional M‐MLV‐RT systems across plant and animal cells, particularly at hard‐to‐edit loci ...

Resistant Peanut Genotype Reprograms Rhizosphere Metabolism to Enhance Bacterial Wilt Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The resistant peanut genotype selectively recruits beneficial bacteria, which coincides with the activation of salicylic acid (SA)‐dependent systemic acquired resistance (SAR) against Ralstonia solanacearum. Keystone rhizosphere metabolites are positively correlated with both beneficial microbiome assembly and SAR gene expression.

Flexible taxonomic assignment of ambiguous sequencing reads

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2011
Background To characterize the diversity of bacterial populations in metagenomic studies, sequencing reads need to be accurately assigned to taxonomic units in a given reference taxonomy.

The Vaginal Microbiome: Disease, Genetics and the Environment

open access: yes, 2010
The vagina is an interactive interface between the host and the environment. Its surface is covered by a protective epithelium colonized by bacteria and other microorganisms.
