Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

Ethylene production in plants during transformation suppresses vir gene expression in Agrobacterium tumefaciens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
•Ethylene evolution from plants inhibits Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation, but the mechanism is little understood. In this study, the possible role of ethylene in Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation was clarified.•It was tested ...

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Development of an efficient transformation system for Dothistromin pini : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Science in Molecular Genetics at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A transformation system has been developed for the plant pathogenic fungus Dothistroma pini using a positive selection system based on the Escherichia coli hygromycin B phosphotransferase gene (hph).

Integrating functional diversity, food web processes, and biogeochemical carbon fluxes into a conceptual approach for modeling the upper ocean in a high-CO2 world [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Marine food webs influence climate by channeling carbon below the permanent pycnocline, where it can be sequestered. Because most of the organic matter exported from the euphotic zone is remineralized within the "upper ocean" (i.e., the water column ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Factors affecting genetic transformation via Agrobacterium tumefaciens in Phaseolus vulgaris L.

open access: yesBiotecnología Vegetal, 2013
Phaseolus genus, as well as other legumes, has proved recalcitrant plant regeneration in vitro and mainly to genetic transformation via Agrobacterium tumefaciens.

Host-Mimicking Strategies in DNA Methylation for Improved Bacterial Transformation

open access: yes, 2012
In 1928, Griffith [1] reported that soluble substances from virulent pneumococcal cells trans‐ formed non-virulent pneumococcus to virulent forms. This substance has now been demon‐ strated to be DNA [2-4].
