Unveiling metabolic integration in psyllids and their nutritional endosymbionts through comparative transcriptomics analysis

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: Psyllids, a group of insects that feed on plant sap, have a symbiotic relationship with an endosymbiont called Carsonella. Carsonella synthesizes essential amino acids and vitamins for its psyllid host, but lacks certain genes required for this ...

Current and future potential geographical distribution of Bactericera cockerelli: an invasive pest of increasing global importance

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 62, Issue 4, Page 488-502, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Due to ongoing climate change and the spread of invasive pests, understanding and predicting climatic suitability for invasive insect species has shown growing demand from government and industry biosecurity managers. The invasive pest Bactericera cockerelli, (Šulc) (Hemiptera: Triozidae), commonly known as tomato potato psyllid (TPP), is ...

Association of endoplasmic reticulum associated degradation (ERAD) with the transmission of Liberibacter solanacearum by its psyllid vector

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, Volume 32, Issue 4, Page 436-449, August 2023., 2023
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) associated degradation (ERAD) on the ER‐cytosol interface and the involvement of derlin‐1 in ERAD and its interaction with CLso. Derlin‐1 and CLso co‐localize in a stripe‐like pattern in the psyllid midgut. Inhibiting ERAD with Eer I or silencing derlin‐1 with double stranded RNA (dsRNA) significantly interferes with CLso ...

Insecticidal Effect of Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles against Bactericera cockerelli Sulc. (Hemiptera: Triozidae) on Tomato Solanum lycopersicum

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
The use of nanoparticles (NPs) has generated an alternative pest control. The objective was to evaluate the insecticidal effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs), and their combination on Bactericera ...

Secondary predation by omnivores: Cereal aphid consumption bears no risk of misinterpretation in DNA‐based diet analysis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 147, Issue 5, Page 356-360, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Many omnivorous arthropods act as important pest control agents in agroecosystems. Assessing their prey choices helps to better understand their biocontrol potential in different environmental settings. To this end, multi‐target approaches of molecular gut content analysis allow studying their prey choices.

Distribución espacial de las poblaciones de huevos de Bactericera cockerelli Sulc. en el cultivo de tomate de cáscara (Physalis ixocarpa Brot.) [PDF]

open access: yesActa Universitaria, 2018
La producción de tomate de cáscara ha sufrido pérdidas económicas del 70% al 80% por la presencia de amarillamiento y aborto floral cuyo agente causal se le atribuye al insecto Bactericera cockerelli Sulc.

Vibrational communication and mating behaviour of the psyllid Bactericera cockerelli

open access: yesProceedings of the 3rd Joint Annual Meeting POnTE and XF-ACTORS, 2019, 28-30 October, Ajaccio, France, 2019
An insect pest reliant on vibrational signals for mate finding can potentially be manipulated by means of mechanical stimuli, in order to both monitor and control the target species populations in the field. This strategy could be used to manage the tomato potato psyllid, Bactericera cockerelli, which is a major pest of various solanaceous plants.

Extracto metanólico de Crotalaria longirostrata: Identificación de metabolitos secundarios y su efecto insecticida

open access: yesScientia Agropecuaria, 2022
Las complicaciones ocasionadas por la generación de resistencia en el psílido Bactericera cockerelli por los plaguicidas químicos, plantean la necesidad del uso alternativo de productos que reduzcan la resistencia y garanticen un mejor control.
