One Health Insights From Pteropus medius: Nipah Virus Spillover, Microbiota, and Antimicrobial Resistance

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Environmental and anthropogenic drivers of antibiotic resistance dissemination. The cycle reinforces how anthropogenic inputs, such as sewage, animal dung, hospital effluent, and agricultural runoff bring resistant bacteria and antibiotic residues into soil and water.

Effects of Different Living Environments on Intestinal Flora in Patients With Schistosoma Japonicum‐Induced Liver Fibrosis

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Different living environments have a significant impact on the gut microbiota of patients with Schistosoma japonicum. ABSTRACT Schistosomiasis japonica is a parasitic disease leading to liver cirrhosis. China's “fishermen going ashore” policy divides patients with schistosomiasis liver fibrosis into two groups: those near the infected waters and those ...

Water Soluble‐Nitrogenous Secondary Metabolites From Talaromyces annesophieae MD2 Exhibit Anti‐Bacterial, Anti‐Cancer, Anti‐Oxidant, and Cytoprotective Activities

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
The dichloromethane extract (DCM‐E) was prepared from the culture supernatant of the fungus Talaromyces annesophieae MD2 was fractionated using chromatographic techniques. The subfraction 3 was determined to contain four major nitrogenous compounds and exhibit antibacterial, anticancer, antioxidant, and cytoprotective activities.

Universal‐Bac3Gel: A 3D Biofilm‐Relevant Matrix That Supports In Vitro Growth and Biofilm Formation of ESKAPE Pathogens

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Universal‐Bac3Gel, a 3D biofilm‐relevant matrix with oxygen and nutrient gradients, supports the growth and species‐specific biofilm architectures of all ESKAPE pathogens, offering a physiologically relevant platform for antimicrobial testing and microbiological research. ABSTRACT Human microbiota is increasingly considered to shape health and disease,

Standardized 16S Meta‐Analysis Reveals Consistent Host‐Associated Patterns in Laminariales Epiphytic Microbiomes

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
An integrated bioinformatic pipeline combining taxonomic, functional, and network analyses revealed host‐driven structuring of macroalgal microbiomes. Phaeophyceae hosted distinct epiphytic communities enriched in chemoheterotrophy and polysaccharide degradation, highlighting metabolic coupling, keystone taxa, and a standardized framework for ...
