Thermal analysis of bacteriophage T4
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1979Abstract The process of bacteriophage T4 morphogenesis was studied using a heat leakage scanning calorimeter. Thermograms of defective mutant 49 (am NG727) in permissive and non-permissive cells of Escherichia coli showed a difference in thermal properties between packaged and non-packaged DNA molecules.

Transversion mutagenesis in bacteriophage T4
Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1975Transversion mutations can be distinguished from transition mutations by the use of special tauII mutants of bacteriophage T4. Methyl methanesulfonate did not induce reversion of the tester mutants along transversion or transition pathways from A:T1 base pair sites, nor along transversion pathways from G:C base pair sites.

Deletion formation in bacteriophage T4
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1988We have manipulated the dispensable region of the rIIB gene of bacteriophage T4 in order to study the generation of deletions involving direct repeats. We show that recombination between different parental chromosomes is one source of the deletions we have studied.

Infectious DNA of bacteriophage T4
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1971Abstract An assay for infectious T4 DNA is described. The infectious DNA is fully extended and free of protein as judged by its sensitivity to DNases and hydrodynamic shear, its resistance to anti-T4 serum and pronase, and its sedimentation profile. Although the efficiency of the assay is low, it is sufficient for many current needs.

Recombination in Bacteriophage T4
1970Publisher Summary This chapter discusses that study on genetic recombination in phage T4 shows the participating DNA molecules are broken and rejoined during the process. It appears, likely, that breakage and rejoining may account for all recombination, as the extent of breakage, as measured by physical methods, is in rather good agreement with the ...

Recombination in Bacteriophage T4: a Mechanism
Science, 1965Genetic recombination between r II mutants of T4 bacteriophage grown in Escherichia coli can occur under conditions where DNA synthesis is strongly inhibited by 5-fluorodeoxyuridine. The small amount of DNA synthesized under these conditions cannot account for the observed frequency of ...

Molecular architecture of bacteriophage T4
Biochemistry (Moscow), 2004In studying bacteriophage T4--one of the basic models of molecular biology for several decades--there has come a Renaissance, and this virus is now actively used as object of structural biology. The structures of six proteins of the phage particle have recently been determined at atomic resolution by X-ray crystallography.

Mutagenesis of bacteriophage T4 by acridines
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1961Induced reversion by acridines of a number of different r II mutants of bacteriophage T4 has been studied. The following mutants were used: ten BD mutants (induced with bromouracil), ten SP mutants (spontaneous origin), twelve P mutants (induced with proflavin) and ten AC mutants (induced with 5 aminoacridine).

Structural proteins of bacteriophage T4
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1970Abstract The protein composition of purified T4 phage, phage heads and capsids was examined by sodium dodeoyl sulfate-acrylamide gel electrophoresis. The virion contains at least 21 unique proteins which range in molecular weight from 10,000 to 150,000. Both heads and capsids contain eight of these proteins.

Physical mapping of bacteriophage T4
Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1981The 134 positions of the cleavage sites of the restriction endonucleases XbaI, HaeII and EcoRI were determined for a cytosine-containing DNA of bacteriophage T4. This physical map was aligned with the genetic map. The T4 early regions were further identified by hybridization of RNA synthesized in vitro to the restriction fragments and two promoter ...
