Interactions of rare earth elements with living organisms and emerging biotechnical applications

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Rare earth elements (REEs) are critical resources required to achieve net‐zero carbon emission targets and energy security. However, rising demand for REEs coupled with significant extraction and processing challenges and geopolitical risks restricts access to REE resources.

Monitoring the Coating of Single DNA Origami Nanostructures with a Molecular Fluorescence Lifetime Sensor

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A molecular cyanine dye sensor reports on the coating of DNA origami with a polymer or silica by an increase in its fluorescence lifetime. The reversibility of the fluorescence lifetime shift enables the noninvasive real‐time probing of the coating even in degrading conditions.

Polyethylene Glycol Nanofiller for Robust Lyophilization of Graphically Encoded Hydrogel Microparticles

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The polyethylene glycol (PEG) nanofiller exerts a superior stabilization effect on the geometries and porous structures of the graphically encoded hydrogel microparticles in a lyophilization process. The as‐lyophilized microparticles can exert robust immunoassay performances (limit of detection: 6.48 pg mL−1) after thermal aging treatment, which ...
