Bacteroides fragilis endocarditis: a case report and review of literature
Endocarditis due to Bacteroides fragilis is a rare disorder. This article describes a case of Bacteroides fragilis endocarditis associated with portal and superior mesenteric venous thrombosis in a patient without preexisting valvular heart disease and ...

Bacteroides fragilis Enterotoxin Gene Sequences in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease
We identified enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis in stool specimens of patients with inflammatory bowel disease and other gastrointestinal disorders. The organism was detected in 11 (13.2%) of 83 patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Of 57 patients

A study on Nim expression in Bacteroides fragilis [PDF]
Members of the genus Bacteroides, mainly Bacteroides fragilis, can cause severe disease in man, especially after intestinal perforation in the course of abdominal surgery. Treatment is based on a small number of antibiotics, including metronidazole, which has proved to be highly reliable throughout the last 40 to 50 years.

Intracellular Polysaccharide of Bacteroides fragilis [PDF]
Formation of iodophilic polysaccharide (IPS) from glucose was demonstrated in 27 strains of Bacteroides fragilis. Synthesis was dependent on the glucose concentration of the medium, the pH and the growth phase. When glucose was in short supply the cellular polysaccharide was degraded rapidly at pH 4.5 to 6.5 and fatty acids accumulated in the medium ...

Haemagglutination by the Bacteroides fragilis group [PDF]
Adhesive properties of five species of Bacteroides were compared by direct haemagglutination with erythrocytes of different origin. Only strains of Bacteroides fragilis agglutinated erythrocytes and different patterns of haemagglutination were observed. None of eight carbohydrates tested inhibited haemagglutination.

Cefoxitin inactivation by Bacteroides fragilis [PDF]
We have surveyed the susceptibility of 1,575 clinical isolates of the Bacteroides fragilis group of organisms to cefoxitin and eight other antimicrobial agents. Eleven isolates, 0.7% of the total, were highly cefoxitin resistant and had minimum inhibitory concentrations of greater than or equal to 64 micrograms/ml. These isolates were also resistant to

Complete genome sequence of a Bacteroides fragilis bacteriophage, vB_BfrS_NCTC [PDF]
Bacteroides fragilis is an obligate anaerobe and a common gut commensal bacterium that is also an important opportunistic pathogen. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of the circularly permuted B. fragilis bacteriophage vB_BfrS_NCTC.
