Enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1995
Enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis (ETBF) has been recently associated with watery diarrheal disease in livestock and young children. These strains of B. fragilis secrete an extracellular heat-labile protein toxin with a mess of approximately 20 kD. This toxin has been shown to have two major biological activities: stimulation of secretion in ligated

Bacteroides fragilis Endocarditis

Southern Medical Journal, 1988
We recently diagnosed and treated an unusual case of primary endocarditis due to Bacteroides fragilis, for which no underlying etiology was found. Antibiotic treatment involved multiple parenteral and oral antibiotics, and sensitivity studies allowed choice of antibiotics. Despite complications, the patient was cured.

Bacteroides Fragilis Perinephric Abscess

Journal of Urology, 1980
Although urinary tract infection caused by Bacteroides fragilis has been recognized since the turn of the century it is not frequently recognized in clinical practice. Only a small number of significant upper urinary tract infections in which Bacteroides fragilis has had a significant pathogenic role have been reported previously.

Experimental Bacteroides fragilis Keratitis

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1978
To determine the corneal pathogenicity of certain anaerobic bacteria, Bacteroides fragilis keratitis was induced in rabbits by the intrastromal inoculation of 10' viable organisms. All eyes inoculated developed central abscesses within 24 hours. Abscesses persisted and became vascularized in two of three eyes that were observed for two weeks, as ...

Bacteroides fragilis Meningitis

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1987
Bacteroides fragilis is a rare cause of bacterial meningitis. In the antibiotic era nine cases have been reported. Seven of these nine cases occurred in premature infants and neonates. Of the nine patients with B. fragilis meningitis, two died, four survived with neurologic sequelae, and three survived without sequelae. Predisposing conditions included

Enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis

Current Infectious Disease Reports, 2008
Bacteroides fragilis is a minor component of the microbial flora of the intestine but the most frequent disease--causing anaerobe. Virulence characteristics are its capsule, which induces abscess formation, and the production of fragilysin, a Zn-metalloprotease.
