Comparative Morphometry of Bactrian Camel and Dromedary

Journal of Mammalian Evolution, 2017
There are two living species of Old World camelids (Camelidae, Artiodactyla): the Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus) and the dromedary (Camelus dromedarius). Differences in osteology between them are poorly known, and this lack of knowledge hinders archaeological and paleontological research.

REPRODUCTIVE PARAMETERS OF MALE DROMEDARY AND BACTRIAN CAMELS

Archives of Andrology, 2001
Functional anatomy of male reproductive organs and reproductive physiology of dromedary and bactrian camels are quite similar except for some differences in the seasonal pattern of reproductive events: left testes bigger than right; scrotum not pendulous; vas deferens very convoluted with 2 mm diameter; prostate divided into 2 parts by septum, with ...

Histological study of Bactrian camel cryptorchidism and expression of immunoglobulin λ light chain in the testicular and epididymis of cryptorchid Bactrian camel

Reproduction in Domestic Animals, 2023
AbstractLambda light chains (λ‐LCs) are frequently responsible for triggering the activation of inflammatory factors in autoimmune disorders, and an increase in their levels will cause various pathological changes in serum. The aim of this study was to determine the histological differences between the epididymis and testis of normal and cryptorchid ...

Camelus bactrianus (Bactrian camel)

1974
The male karyotype came from lymphocyte cultures and was donated by Dr. Lucien Koulischer, Belgium, and the female karyotype came from lung cultures donated by Dr. David A. Hungerford, Philadelphia. Pairing is arbitrary and classification of the chromosomes is difficult as in other camelids. Many acrocentrics possess short arms and many have satellites.

GASTRIC PYTHIOSIS IN A BACTRIAN CAMEL (BACTRIANUS CAMELUS)

Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2018
Pythium insidiosum, an aquatic oomycete, causes chronic lesions in the skin and digestive tract of multiple species. A captive-bred Bactrian camel ( Camelus bactrianus) showed clinical signs of lethargy and weight loss in a clinical course of 30 days, with no response to treatment.

Characterization of heavy-chain antibody gene repertoires in Bactrian camels

Journal of Genetics and Genomics, 2023
Camelids are the only mammals that can produce functional heavy-chain antibodies (HCAbs). Although HCAbs were discovered over 30 years ago, the antibody gene repertoire of Bactrian camels remains largely underexplored. To characterize the diversity of variable genes of HCAbs (VHHs), germline and rearranged VHH repertoires are constructed. Phylogenetics

Macroanatomy of coronary arteries in Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus)

Veterinary Research Communications, 2008
The aim of present study was to determine the origin, distribution and course of the coronary arteries in Bactrian camels. Ten hearts of adult healthy Bactrian camels of different sex constituted the material. Following exposition of the arteries by means of injection of 15% ABS coloured with red carmine to a. coronaria sinistra and a. coronaria dextra,

Identification of Bactrian camel cell lines using genetic markers

In Vitro Cellular & Developmental Biology - Animal, 2018
Iranian Bactrian camel population is less than 100 animals. Iranian biological resource center produced more than 50 Bactrian camel fibroblast cell lines as a somatic cell bank for conservation animal genetic resources. We compared two type markers performance, including 14 random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPDs) (dominant) and eight microsatellite ...

Allelic polymorphism in Arabian camel ribonuclease and the amino acid sequence of bactrian camel ribonuclease

Biochemical Genetics, 1976
Pancreatic ribonucleases from several species (whitetail deer, roe deer, guinea pig, and arabian camel) exhibit more than one amino acid at particular positions in their amino acid sequences. Since these enzymes were isolated from pooled pancreas, the origin of this heterogeneity is not clear.

The Nerve Supply to the Orbit of the Bactrian Camel

Veterinary Research Communications, 2004
The Bactrian camel is an important domestic animal in some desert and semi-desert areas of the world, but there is no detailed description of the nervous supply to the orbit in this animal. In this study, 10 heads of adult Bactrian camels were collected and the nerves supplying the orbit were examined grossly.
