The Effects of Suspended Sediments, Dye, and Their Variation on Fish Behavior

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
Human activities are affecting the visual environments of freshwater ecosystems by introducing visual pollutants such as artificial dyes and elevated suspended sediment levels. Our research shows that dyes and suspended sediments can have contrasting effects of fish behavior, with dye increasing and sediments decreasing movement.

Tigers in the Neighborhood: Factors Associated With Fatal Tiger Attacks in a Human‐Dominated Landscape, Nepal

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We documented 245 tiger attacks on humans (141 fatalities) during 2010–2024 in Nepal. Most of the attacks (> 90%) occurred inside forest areas. Men were attacked more frequently (65.3%) but fatality was higher among women (> 70%). The majority of the victims (93%) had education of secondary level or below.

Managing soil fertility diversity to enhance resource use efficiencies in smallholder farming systems: a case from Murewa District, Zimbabwe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Smallholder farms in sub-Saharan African exhibit substantial heterogeneity in soil fertility, and nutrient resource allocation strategies that address this variability are required to increase nutrient use efficiencies.

Influence of Self‐Cleaning Photocatalysts on the Engineering and Functional Properties of Paints and Composite Materials

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
Ni‐doped Ba2TiO3 nanophotocatalyst is incorporated into paint and cement composites to create light‐activated construction materials. Under solar irradiation, the material degrades nitrogen oxides and organic dyes into harmless products, imparting self‐cleaning behavior while simultaneously enhancing mechanical strength, offering a sustainable approach

Null Distribution and Bahadur Efficiency of the Hodges Bivariate Sign Test

open access: yesThe Annals of Mathematical Statistics, 1962
This note presents a simplified expression for the exact null distribution of the Hodges bivariate sign test. The form is suitable for computing both for small and large sample size and gives the limiting distribution easily. A small table is given for the limiting distribution.

Global Bahadur representation for nonparametric censored regression quantiles and its applications [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper is concerned with the nonparametric estimation of regression quantiles where the response variable is randomly censored. Using results on the strong uniform convergence of U-processes, we derive a global Bahadur representation for the weighted

Exsolution, Evolution, and Hysteresis of CO2 Nanobubbles in Water‐Saturated Sandstone

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Understanding CO2 nanobubble formation in water‐saturated sandstone is critical for understanding fluid behavior in CO2 storage systems. Here, CO2 exsolution from an aqueous phase in a sandstone was investigated using small‐angle neutron scattering at 50°C during cyclic depressurization from 12 to 0.7 MPa.

Combined Gravimetric, Electrochemical, and Computational Research on Benzothiophene Derivatives as Effective Corrosion Inhibitors for Mild Steel

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 21, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
ABSTRACT Four benzothiophenes, thianaphthene (BT‐1), 3‐bromothianaphthene (BT‐2), benzo[b]thiophene‐2‐carboxaldehyde (BT‐3), and benzo[b]thiophene‐2‐carbonitrile (BT‐4), were tested as mild steel corrosion inhibitors in 1‐M HCl. The compounds have the similar benzothiophene core but differ in the substituents bound to the ring.

Bahadur Efficiency of Rank Tests for the Change-Point Problem

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1988
Let \(X_ 1,X_ 2,...,X_ N\) be independent random variables, then the sequence has a change-point at n, if \(X_ 1,X_ 2,...,X_ N\) have common distribution F and \(X_{n+1},...,X_ n\) have a common distribution G, \(G\neq F\). The change-point problem is to test the null- hypothesis of no change \((G=F)\) against the alternative of a change ...
