Evolution of transformation plasticity during bainitic transformation

International Journal of Materials Research, 2011
Abstract The influences of prior austenitization treatment and the state of applied stresses on the evolution of transformation plasticity strains during isothermal bainitic phase transformation and the resulting microstructures were examined.

Bainitic transformation kinetics and stress assisted transformation

Materials Science and Technology, 2001
Abstract With reference to experimental data, the effects of stress, chemical composition, and transformation temperature on bainitic transformation kinetics are analysed. A decrease of transformation temperature or an increase of carbon equivalent results in a slow rate of bainitic transformation and reduces the promotive effect of stress induced ...

The mechanism of bainite transformation

Journal de Physique IV (Proceedings), 2003
Ultra-fine structures of bainite and its surface relief, and carbide nucleation inside austenite at the interface of ferrite/austenite are studied in this paper. The sympathetic nucleation and ledgewise growth theory is applied to explain the experimental results.

Bainitic Transformations in Titanium Alloys

Physics of Metals and Metallography, 2021
A large number of factors have an effect on the features and conditions of bainitic (intermediate) transformations in titanium alloys, namely: the type of phase diagram, the position of the eutectoid temperature, the eutectoid composition, the temperature of the start of martensitic transformation, and the rate of diffusion processes.

Bainite Transformation in Deformed Austenite

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2010
This study documents the characteristics of bainite transformations in deformed austenite during continuous cooling of a low-carbon microalloyed steel. In particular, it describes the distinguishing features of the two types of bainite observed: conventional bainite (CB) and acicular ferrite (AF).

Kinetics of the bainite transformation

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2004
Summary: A theory is developed for the evolution of bainite as a function of time, temperature, chemical composition and austenite grain size. The model takes into account the details of the mechanism of transformation, including the fact that nucleation begins at the austenite grain surfaces, and that the growth of a sheaf occurs by the repeated ...

Autocatalysis in bainite transformations

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2000
The objective of the study is to provide a better account of the autocatalysis phenomenon in bainite transformation in steels. The phenomenon of autocatalysis is related to the nucleation of ferrite subunits at the surfaces of bainite sheaves during transformation. The analytical forms of the effective nucleation rate are derived based on two different

Bainite transformation in deformed austenite

Metallurgical Transactions A, 1976
In this work the effect of deformation of metastable austenite on its subsequent isothermal decomposition in bainite regions was investigated in three chromium steels with varying carbon contents. Four different types of treatments were used and the effect of carbon content was studied.
