Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Postural balance, anxiety and motor function after stroke, at a very early supported discharge with continued rehabilitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate postural balance, anxiety and motor function the first year after stroke and whether postural balance, anxiety and motor function was different at the intervention of Very Early Supported Discharge (VESD)

Targeted Function Balancing

open access: yes, 2022
This paper introduces Targeted Function Balancing (TFB), a covariate balancing weights framework for estimating the average treatment effect of a binary intervention. TFB first regresses an outcome on covariates, and then selects weights that balance functions (of the covariates) that are probabilistically near the resulting regression function.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

An empirical model for the Turkish trade balance: new evidence from ARDL bounds testing analyses [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, the determinants of the Turkish trade balance are tried to be analyzed in an empirical modelling approach. For this purpose, the contemporaneous ARDL-based bounds testing has been used to examine the existence of a long run co-integration ...

Balance Functions in a Thermal Model with Resonances [PDF]

open access: yesActa Physica Hungarica A) Heavy Ion Physics, 2005
The pi+ pi- balance function in rapidity is computed in a thermal model with resonances. It is found that the correlations from the neutral-resonance decays are important, yielding about a half of the total contribution, which in general consist of resonance and non-resonance parts. The model yields the pionic balance function a few per cent wider that

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
