Balance of power

open access: yesIEEE Power and Energy Magazine, 2009
This paper discusses the challenges in the procurement of electricity. The primary challenge faced by the countries in Latin America is to ensure sufficient capacity and investment to reliably serve their growing economies. The turn of the century brought different challenges to the energy supply in the region and to its market policy emphasis, coupled

Competitive balance in complex professional sports leagues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Competitive balance is seen as crucial to the viability of professional sports leagues, and it has been a central concern of sports economists, industry practitioners and fans. But the concept is complex and ill-defined. The theoretical approach in this

Modified Modulation Strategy of 1: 1: 2 Asymmetric Nine-Level Inverter and Its Power Balance Method

open access: yes, 2020
The three unit nine-level inverter can output more voltage levels with fewer h-bridge units, while having better output waveform quality. However, in the conventional hybrid frequency modulation strategy, only one low-voltage unit adopts pulse width ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

A Practical Method for Probabilistic Analysis of Electric Power and Energy Balance of New Power System

open access: yes
[Objective] The use of deterministic methods to construct power and energy balance tables is unsuitable because of the strong randomness and frequent occurrence of extreme events caused by a high proportion of new energy grid connections. [Methods] Based

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.
