Scalable Parallel Numerical CSP Solver

open access: yes, 2014
We present a parallel solver for numerical constraint satisfaction problems (NCSPs) that can scale on a number of cores. Our proposed method runs worker solvers on the available cores and simultaneously the workers cooperate for the search space ...

Network-Based Vertex Dissolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We introduce a graph-theoretic vertex dissolution model that applies to a number of redistribution scenarios such as gerrymandering in political districting or work balancing in an online situation.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Simple heuristics for the assembly line worker assignment and balancing problem

open access: yes, 2012
We propose simple heuristics for the assembly line worker assignment and balancing problem. This problem typically occurs in assembly lines in sheltered work centers for the disabled.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

k-Balancing Numbers and Pell’s Equation of Higher Orde [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
First time introduced in the year 1999, the balancing numbers are extensively studied. Each balancing number is associated with a Lucas-balancing number and are useful in the computation of balancing numbers of higher order.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A Simplified Virtual Vector PWM Algorithm to Balance the Capacitor Voltages of Four-Level Diode-Clamped Converter

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The voltage balancing problem of dc-link capacitors in multilevel diode-clamped converters limits their applications in industry under some operational conditions.
