Fuzzy based load and energy aware multipath routing for mobile ad hoc networks [PDF]
Routing is a challenging task in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) due to their dynamic topology and lack of central administration. As a consequence of un-predictable topology changes of such networks, routing protocols employed need to accurately capture ...

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Event-Driven Molecular Dynamics in Parallel [PDF]
Although event-driven algorithms have been shown to be far more efficient than time-driven methods such as conventional molecular dynamics, they have not become as popular.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phenomenological Constraints on Axion Models of Dynamical Dark Matter
In two recent papers (arXiv:1106.4546, arXiv:1107.0721), we introduced "dynamical dark matter" (DDM), a new framework for dark-matter physics in which the requirement of stability is replaced by a delicate balancing between lifetimes and cosmological ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...
