open access: yesQuantitative Economics, Volume 16, Issue 3, Page 823-858, July 2025.
This paper considers nonparametric estimation and inference in first‐order autoregressive (AR(1)) models with deterministically time‐varying parameters. A key feature of the proposed approach is to allow for time‐varying stationarity in some time periods, time‐varying nonstationarity (i.e., unit root or local‐to‐unit root behavior) in other periods ...

A simple model of internal and external balance for resource‐rich developing countries

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Volume 69, Issue 1, Page 178-199, January 2025.
Abstract We present a simple model of internal and external balance that incorporates key features of resource‐rich developing countries (RRDCs). The main result is that ‘government take’—the ratio of fiscal resource revenue to resource output—is a key determinant of the equilibrium real exchange rate (ERER) in these countries.
