The Application of Hydrochar Composite Briquettes for Sustainable Slag Foaming in the Electric Arc Furnace Process

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrochar‐mill‐scale briquettes with varying C/O molar ratios (0.07–0.90) have been tested at 1650 °C to evaluate their slag foaming performance for electric arc furnace application. All seven briquette recipes developed succeed in promoting slag foaming.

Field survey and evaluation method for fouled ballast using transmitted sound characteristics

open access: yesTransportation Engineering
As railway ballast crushing and refining progress with time, and the content of fine grains increases, the saturation of ballast increases during rainfall. The decrease in drainage and strength increase the likelihood for ballast to settle.

Establishing the Strength Characteristics of the Lifting-Leveling Device Structures of the VPO-3-3000 Machines for the Track Straightening

open access: yesCommunications, 2020
This article deals with replacement of the magnetic grippers on the VPO-3-3000 machines with roller grippers. The novelty lies in establishment of dependences characterizing stress and strain in elements of the lifting and straightening devices and in ...

Development of Condition Assessment Index of Ballast Track Using Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR)

open access: yesSensors, 2021
The condition of the ballast is a critical factor affecting the riding quality and the performance of a track. Fouled ballast can accelerate track irregularities, which results in frequent ballast maintenance requirements.

Life raft stabilizer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
An improved life raft stabilizer for reducing rocking and substantially precluding capsizing is discussed. The stabilizer may be removably attached to the raft and is defined by flexible side walls which extend a considerable depth downwardly to one ...

Radiographic evaluation of gastroliths in a group of 49 juvenile saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) in the UK

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Gastrolith ingestion is a known inherent behaviour in crocodiles. However, the interpretation of coelomic radiographs in crocodilians is challenging due to the limited informative literature in this field. Methods Dorsoventral coelomic radiographs of 49 juvenile saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) were acquired twice, with an ...

UV‐Induced Fluorescence in the Balance: Mate Choice and Predation Risk in the Female Ornamented Jumping Spiders

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This study investigates the potential adaptive advantages of female‐specific UV‐induced fluorescence in male mate‐choice and predation risk, as fitness costs, using two species of ornate jumping spiders Phintella vittata and Ph. bifurcilinea. Our findings provide empirical evidence of a trade‐off: While fluorescence enhances male mate preference, it ...
