Neuromuscular Alterations of Knee Extensors During Padel Match Play

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Despite padel's growing popularity, its neuromuscular fatigue profile during prolonged match play remains poorly understood. This study examined the magnitude and etiology of neuromuscular alterations in the knee extensors using voluntary and evoked contractions during extended padel play.

A Safe Battery Casing for a Hybrid Battery System Consisting of Lithium‐Ion High‐Power and High‐Energy Cells in Marine Applications

open access: yesEnergy Technology, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2026.
A versatile battery module platform houses either high‐energy NMC (155 Ah) or high‐power LTO (23 Ah) lithium‐ion cells for marine hybrid propulsion. Cell‐level failure tests guide the venting design, while a stainless‐steel–ablation hood withstands the up to 580 kW particle‐laden thermal‐runaway jet and aerogel gap fillers block propagation. Both fully

Comparison of Amplitude‐ and Amplitude‐Frequency‐Modulated Pulses for Outer Volume Suppression in Cardiac MRI: Application to Myocardial T2 Mapping

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 96, Issue 5, Page 2240-2252, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose To evaluate single‐ and dual‐band pulse modules for suppressing extra‐cardiac signal in cardiac MRI, and test their applicability for time‐efficient imaging with reduced FOV in myocardial T2 mapping at 3 T. Methods Outer Volume Suppression (OVS) was implemented using two regional saturation slabs, along the phase‐encoding direction ...

Inconsistency in 9 mm bullets : correlation of jacket thickness to post-impact geometry measured with non-destructive X-ray computed tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Fundamental to any ballistic armour standard is the reference projectile to be defeated. Typically, for certification purposes, a consistent and symmetrical bullet geometry is assumed, however variations in bullet jacket dimensions can have far reaching ...

Dynamical Solar Wind Forecasting Using In Situ Solar Wind Speed Observations

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 11, November 2026.
Abstract Accurate prediction of the ambient solar wind at Earth is a key requirement for space‐weather forecasting but is limited by uncertainties in coronal boundary conditions and, to a lesser extent, heliospheric transport. We present a quantitative assessment of a solar wind forecast that uses near‐Earth in situ solar wind observations to estimate ...

Uniform Amorphization of Crystalline Silicon Surfaces Enabled by Deep Ultraviolet Femtosecond Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 19, 7 October 2026.
Deep‐UV (258 nm) femtosecond pulses enable uniform amorphous silicon writing on Si(100)/(111) with a six‐fold larger fluence amorphization window than NIR methods. Optimized fluence and overlap yield 20–45 nm uniform and continuous amorphous layers. Microscopy shows sharp interfaces, and real‐time reflectivity reveals nanosecond melt–resolidification ...

Bioinspired Adaptive Surfaces for Intelligent Liquid Manipulation: Progressing From Passive and Active to Hybrid Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 56, 8 October 2026.
This review examines passive, active, and hybrid liquid manipulation strategies, highlighting hybrid approaches as an emerging route to reconcile energy efficiency with adaptive control. By actively reconstructing passive surfaces to store programmable interfacial energy, hybrid systems enable flexible yet low‐power liquid transport, with perspectives ...

Deep‐Tissue Light Generation via Whispering Gallery Mode Lasing From a Commercial Nylon Fiber for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 19, 7 October 2026.
A dyed nylon fiber is implemented inside the scattering phantom and skin tissue. The deep‐tissue light generation via whispering gallery mode lasing is demonstrated, achieving a depth of >50 times transport mean free path in scattering phantom and 3 mm beneath skin.

Large‐Area Flat Optics Color Routing in Tilted Arrays of 2D Semiconductor Nanostripes

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 40, 27 October 2026.
We develop a scalable flat optics platform exploiting self‐organised ion‐beam sputtering and maskless glancing‐angle deposition to fabricate centimetre‐scale arrays of tilted MoS2 nanostripes. The engineered geometry activates Rayleigh anomalies, guided modes, and Mie resonances, enabling highly directional color routing and enhanced light harvesting ...
