On the order of plates providing the maximum ballistic limit velocity of a layered armor

International Journal of Impact Engineering, 1999
Abstract The high-velocity impact of a three-dimensional rigid sharp impactor penetrating into a ductile layered armor is studied using a simplified model for an impactor–armor interaction. The goal of the study is to determine the order of the plates in the armor that provides the maximum ballistic limit velocity.

Ballistic Limit Velocity and Impact Energy Absorption from Microns to Millimeters

2024 17th Hypervelocity Impact Symposium
Abstract The Laser-Induced Particle Impact Test (LIPIT) can be used to probe projectile, target, and synergistic projectile-target responses under high strain rate deformation at the microscale. LIPIT’s advantages over other microscale launching techniques include the ability to controllably launch a single microparticle and precisely ...

Technique for measuring the ballistic-limit velocity for small mass fragments impacting thin metal plates

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2001
A new gas gun technique has been developed in which a small mass fragment is impacted in a precise orientation by a thin metal disk and then recovered. The metal disk is placed inside a hollow sabot that also contains a miniature soft-recovery chamber. After impact, the sabot with the fragment inside is recovered in rags.

Evaluation of Ballistic Limit Velocity Using Instrumented Indentation Test of 7xxx Aluminum Alloys After Friction Stir Welding

Metals and Materials International, 2020
Friction stir welding has the advantages of producing less material deformation and of simple joining of relatively thick materials, but the disadvantages of forming relatively large heat-affected zones around weld areas. In addition, in research on reductions in bulletproof performance in heat-affected zones, it is necessary to evaluate the ballistic ...

Effect of Annealing Temperature on the Ballistic Limit Velocity of Ti-6A1-4V ELI

1997
Abstract : Although titanium alloys have been used successfully in aircraft for many years, the relatively high cost of titanium coupled with the limited information on its ballistic properties has prevented widespread use in ground vehicles. In order to provide this ballistic information to vehicle designers, the U.S.

Theory of Scattering-Limited and Ballistic Mobility and Saturation Velocity in Low- Dimensional Nanostructures

Current Nanoscience, 2009
Here we show the fundamental processes on nanoscale that may influence the design and extension of nanotechnology chips, sensors, and systems. The focus is on the breakdown of Ohms Law in nanoscale devices extensively being used to assess the performance of a “system-on-a-chip,” may it be ...

A material point method model and ballistic limit equation for hyper velocity impact of multi-layer fabric coated aluminum plate

International Journal of Mechanics and Materials in Design, 2017
A multi-layer fabric coated aluminum plate is usually used in the hard upper torso of space suit to protect astronauts from getting hurt by space dust. In this paper, the protective performance of the multi-layer fabric coated aluminum plate is investigated.

A study of the effect of panel dimensions and projectile diameter on ballistic limit velocity

International Journal of Materials Engineering Innovation, 2017
An analytical method for impact on fibre reinforced plastics (FRP) is developed to study the effect of panel dimensions and projectile diameter on ballistic limit velocity. The analysis has been carried out in two stages; rupture failure and local failure by dominated waves.
