Ballistic response of skin simulant against fragment simulating projectiles

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2023
The response of biological phantoms against high velocity impact is actively sought for applications in defense, space, soft robotics and sensing. Towards this end, we study the ballistic response of silicone based skin simulant against fragment impact ...

STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF OBLIQUE IMPACT ANGLE ON THE FAILURE CHARACTERISTICS OF ALUMINUM ALLOY SHEET

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2022
In order to study the failure mechanism of 6061-T651 aluminum alloy sheet under oblique impact, the impact experiments of a hemispherical projectile slanting into a single aluminum alloy sheet at different impact angles(0°, 15°, 30°, 45°) were carried ...

Ballistic response of armour plates using Generative Adversarial Networks

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2022
It is important to understand how ballistic materials respond to impact from projectiles such that informed decisions can be made in the design process of protective armour systems.

The impact of the coupling relationship between projectile size and yarn dimension on the ballistic performance of plain weave fabric

open access: yesDefence Technology
Aramid fibers, due to their relatively high inter-yarn friction, high strength, high modulus, and other characteristics, have become a typical representative of flexible anti-ballistic materials in modern warfare. Current research on the anti-penetration

Robust prediction of residual velocities and ballistic limits of projectiles for impact on thin aluminium plates [PDF]

open access: yesWIT Transactions on The Built Environment, Vol 87, 2006
This paper deals with the simulation-driven study of the impact of hardened steel projectiles on thin aluminium target plates using explicit finite element analysis as implemented in LS-DYNA. The evaluation of finite element modelling includes a comprehensive mesh convergence study using shell elements for representing target plates and the solid ...

Numerical investigation on effect of different projectile nose shapes on ballistic impact of additively manufactured AlSi10Mg alloy

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials
In the last few years, due to the superior mechanical qualities of Additive Manufacturing (AM) AlSi10Mg alloy to those of traditional casting process AlSi10Mg alloys, the application of AM technology has significantly increased.

Scalable Thermal Engineering via Femtosecond Laser‐Direct‐Written Phononic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that femtosecond laser‐induced periodic surface structures (fs‐LIPSS) can function as phononic metasurfaces, reducing thermal conductivity below the plain thin‐film limit. Phonon Monte Carlo analysis reveals that the periodic structures restrict phonon mean free paths.

Quasi‐Static to Supersonic Energy Absorption of Nanoarchitected Tubulanes and Schwarzites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoarchitected energy‐absorptive Tubulanes exhibit record energy absorption under quasi‐static conditions and exceptional inelastic energy dissipation under 750 m s−1 ballistics impact, with high performance spanning strain rates of 12 orders of magnitude.

Self‐Hybridized Exciton‐Polariton Photodetectors From Layered Metal‐Organic Chalcogenolates

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐hybridized exciton‐polariton photodetectors are demonstrated using high refractive index mithrene, eliminating the need for top mirrors. This simplified architecture enables tunable sub‐bandgap photodetection via lower exciton‐polariton states and enhanced carrier transport through ultrafast polariton group velocities.

Ballistic impact response of steel fiber-metal laminates

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
In this article, the ballistic impact response of square clamped fiber-metal laminates and monolithic plates consisting of different metal alloys is investigated using the ANSYS LS-DYNA explicit nonlinear analysis software.
