Smart Denture with Embedded Thin‐Film Temperature Sensors Patterned by Femtosecond Laser Pulse for Elderly Healthcare

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
We demonstrate the direct‐laser patterning of a gold thin film on polymethyl methacrylate to fabricate a temperature sensor for dentures. The temperature sensor‐embedded smart dentures are evaluated in an oral environment, enabling in‐situ monitoring for elderly healthcare.

Adaptive Control of Run‐and‐Tumble Escape in Pursuit‐Evasion Dynamics of Intelligent Active Particles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The pursuit‐evasion game is studied for two adversarial active agents, modeled as deterministic self‐steering pursuer and stochastic, cognitive evader. For a successful evasion strategy, the motile target has to exploit all available pursuer information, e.g., by tuning the tumbling frequency with the pursuer distance.

Persistent random walk with exclusion

open access: yes, 2013
Modelling the propagation of a pulse in a dense {\em milieu} poses fundamental challenges at the theoretical and applied levels. To this aim, in this paper we generalize the telegraph equation to non-ideal conditions by extending the concept of ...

Prediction of Ballistic Limit for Composite Laminates Subjected to High-velocity Impact Using Static Perforation Test

open access: yesComposites Research, 2013
The ballistic limit of Carbon/Epoxy composite laminates with the finite effective area are predicted by using the quasi-static perforation test and semi-empirical formula. The perforation energy were calculated from force-displacement curve in quasi-static perforation test.

The Progress of Orbitronics: The Enhancement of Orbital Torque Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
Orbit‐torque (OT) devices attract significant attention for their low‐power consumption and high stability in applications. This review systematically outlines strategies for enhancing OT efficiency. We categorize approaches into boosting orbital currents/torques and improving the orbital‐to‐spin conversion coefficient.

Stochastic Aggregation: Scaling Properties

open access: yes, 2000
We study scaling properties of stochastic aggregation processes in one dimension. Numerical simulations for both diffusive and ballistic transport show that the mass distribution is characterized by two independent nontrivial exponents corresponding to ...

Random walks with thermalizing collisions in bounded regions; physical applications valid from the ballistic to diffusive regimes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The behavior of a spin undergoing Larmor precession in the presence of fluctuating fields is of interest to workers in many fields. The fluctuating fields cause frequency shifts and relaxation which are related to their power spectrum, which can be ...

Beyond mammals: the evolution of chewing and other forms of oropharyngeal food processing in vertebrates

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Oropharyngeal food processing exhibits a remarkable diversity among vertebrates, reflecting the evolution of specialised ‘processing centres’ associated with the mandibular, hyoid, and branchial arches. Although studies have detailed various food‐processing strategies and mechanisms across vertebrates, a coherent and comprehensive terminology ...

Ballistic performances of the hourglass lattice sandwich structures under high-velocity fragments

open access: yesDefence Technology
In this paper, the numerical simulation method is used to study the ballistic performances of hourglass lattice sandwich structures with the same mass under the vertical incidence of fragments. Attention is paid to elucidating the influences of rod cross-

Experimental and Numerical Investigation on the Layering Configuration Effect to the Laminated Aluminium/Steel Panel Subjected to High Speed Impact Test

open access: yesMetals, 2018
This paper presents the effect of laminated aluminium-steel panel with different configurations in a high-speed impact test. Layering aluminium plate with high strength steel has become an interest in reducing the overall density of armour vehicle body ...
