Balloon Kyphoplasty for Acute Osteoporotic Compression Fractures [PDF]

open access: yesInterventional Neuroradiology, 2010
We reviewed the effectiveness of balloon kyphoplasty in the treatment of acute symptomatic vertebral compression fractures. We assessed radiographic and functional outcome in 11 patients with a 24.3 month follow-up from a retrospectively monitored series of 11 patients who underwent balloon kyphoplasty (BKP).

Cement Leakage into the Posterior Spinal Canal during Balloon Kyphoplasty: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2007
We report a case of cement leakage into the posterior spinal canal due to inadvertent pedicle perforation during balloon kyphoplasty. The leakage was corrected immediately without any sequelae.

A Deep Learning–Based Multimodal Fusion Model for Predicting Bone Cement Leakage in Percutaneous Kyphoplasty: Development and Validation

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background There is a lack of intelligent methodologies that effectively integrate multimodal information to predict bone cement leakage (BCL) during percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP). This study aimed to develop and validate a deep learning (DL)–based multimodal fusion model that incorporates preoperative CT, MRI, and clinical variables to ...

Multilevel Revision Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in Elderly Patients With Osteoporotic Thoracolumbar Fractures: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 9, Page 1948-1957, September 2026.
Multilevel revision percutaneous vertebroplasty (three or four levels) provided substantial and durable pain relief and functional improvement in elderly patients with osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures, without increased complication rates. These findings support revision PVP as a safe and effective minimally invasive option for frail patients with ...

Vertebral body stenting: a new method for vertebral augmentation versus kyphoplasty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty are well-established minimally invasive treatment options for compression fractures of osteoporotic vertebral bodies. Possible procedural disadvantages, however, include incomplete fracture reduction or a significant loss ...

Unilaterally extrapedicular versus transpedicular kyphoplasty in treating osteoporotic lumbar fractures: a randomized controlled study

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2023
Background The unilaterally extrapedicular approach is adopted increasingly to perform balloon kyphoplasty in treating osteoporotic lumbar fractures, which is intended to improve radiological and clinical efficacy.

Factors Affecting Recollapse of the Augmented Vertebrae After Percutaneous Vertebral Augmentation: A Prospective Study

open access: yesAGING MEDICINE, Volume 9, Issue 3, Page 291-296, June 2026.
To investigate the relevant factors of augmented vertebrae recollapse after percutaneous vertebral augmentation (PVA) for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs). Intervertebral cleft (IVC) and those with PVP intervention are at higher risk of recollapse.

Elastomeric Micro‐Balloons for Remote Control of Cerebral Blood Flow and Real‐Time In vivo Imaging of Rodent Brain Response to Hypoperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 30, 27 May 2026.
This study reports the fabrication of MRI‐compatible elastomeric micro‐balloons via a multi‐step bubble casting process, where the monolithic elastomeric wall is selectively stiffened for reversible and controlled inflation and elasticity, depending on the target vessels for graded occlusion of cerebral arteries.
