Sagittal and Frontal Plane Evaluation of the Whole Spine and Clinical Outcomes after Vertebral Fractures

open access: yesAdvances in Orthopedics, 2015
Although it is known that a change in any level of the spine alters biomechanics, there are not many studies to evaluate the spine as a whole in both sagittal and frontal planes.

Comparison of Two Puncture Approaches in Robot‐Assisted Percutaneous Kyphoplasty for Upper Thoracic Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures

open access: yesRadiology Research and Practice, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Objective This study aimed to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of the robot‐assisted trans‐costotransverse joint approach and transpedicular approach in the treatment of upper thoracic single‐segment osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs).

Balloon kyphoplasty compared to vertebroplasty and nonsurgical management in patients hospitalised with acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture: a UK cost-effectiveness analysis

open access: yes, 2013
Summary The purpose of the study was to estimate the costeffectiveness of balloon kyphoplasty compared to nonsurgical management and vertebroplasty for the treatment of hospitalised osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures in the UK.

Safety and Efficacy of Double Balloon Kyphoplasty (Quattroplasty Versus Single Balloon Kyphoplasty). A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yes, 2023
Background and objectives Osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, particularly prevalent among the aging population, constitute a pressing global healthcare challenge. They often are unnoticed until severe pain and disability manifest, making them an underdiagnosed and undertreated condition.

The Prevalence and Risk Factors of Residual Back Pain After Vertebroplasty for Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 8, Page 2266-2280, August 2025.
A systematic review and meta‐analysis reveal that the overall prevalence of residual back pain after vertebroplasty for OVCFs is 16.3% (16.1% in females, 15.9% in males), with risk factors including thoracolumbar fascia injury, unsatisfactory cement distribution, low pre‐bone mineral density, multiple vertebral fractures, etc.

Is Aortic Balloon Occlusion Effective to Reduce Blood Loss During Lower Lumbar Tumor Resection?

open access: yesCancer Nexus, Volume 1, Issue 2, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Purpose In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of using an aortic balloon to control blood loss during lower lumbar tumor resection. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 82 patients with tumors involving the lower lumbar spine (L4, L5, or Both), who were treated at our center from July 2015 to September 2023.

How Accurately Does Bone Mineral Density Predict Bone Strength? A Clinical Observational Study of Osteoporosis Vertebral Compression Fractures in Postmenopausal Women

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 4, Page 1067-1074, April 2025.
How to directly assess bone strength in osteoporosis patients is still challenging. And The theory that bone mineral density (BMD) predicts bone strength within a range of 50%–75% is only empirical. Our work measured true bone strength by intraoperative measurement of the pressure received by the vertebral balloon, and corrected the BMD formula by ...

Is Percutaneous Kyphoplasty the Better Choice for Treatment of Stage III Kümmell's Disease Without Neurological Symptoms? A Retrospective Study of Two Invasive Procedures

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 3, Page 724-732, March 2025.
Kümmell's disease occurs more frequently after OVCF with vascular osteonecrosis of vertebral body. Based on the amount of clinical practice, we considered PKP as a feasible treatment for Stage III Kümmell's disease without neurological symptoms. ABSTRACT Study Design Retrospective analysis.
