Annual survival rates of migratory shore and upland game birds

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2016
Band recoveries from hunted populations are widely used to estimate survival and harvest rates. We used long‐term (1950–2010) band‐recovery data from the United States and Canada to estimate average survival and recovery rates for juvenile and adult ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Long‐term changes in autumn–winter harvest distributions vary among duck species, months, and subpopulations

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Our aim was to describe shifts in autumn and winter harvest distributions of three species of dabbling ducks (blue‐winged teal [Spatula discors], mallard [Anas platyrhynchos], and northern pintail [Anas acuta]) in the Central and Mississippi flyways of ...

The recovery of distorted band-limited signals

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 1961

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Thick moderator band in the right ventricle of a horse: an accidental finding

open access: yesBulgarian Journal of Veterinary Medicine, 2023
The purpose of this case report is to describe and document a rare anatomical variation of a moderator band located in right ventricle of a stallion referred for cryptorchid castration.

The Complexity of Electroencephalographic Signal Decreases during the Social Stress

open access: yesJournal of Medical Signals and Sensors, 2023
Social stress affects brain function. Trier social stress test (TSST) is a standard test to assess it. The study aimed to analyze the electroencephalographic (EEG) recording during and after TSST in healthy subjects.

Voltage recovery in intermediate band solar cells [PDF]

open access: yesSolar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, 2012
The intermediate band solar cell (IBSC) is based on a novel photovoltaic concept and has a limiting efficiency of 63.2%, which compares favorably with the 40.7% efficiency of a conventional, single junction solar cell. It is characterized by a material hosting a collection of energy levels within its bandgap, allowing the cell to exploit photons with ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.
