On the Accuracy of Tor Bandwidth Estimation
2021The Tor network estimates its relays’ bandwidths using relay self-measurements of client traffic speeds. These estimates largely determine how existing traffic load is balanced across relays, and they are used to evaluate the network’s capacity to handle future traffic load increases.

Difficulties in Estimating Available Bandwidth
2006 IEEE International Conference on Communications, 2006Available bandwidth estimation is very important for network operators, users, and bandwidth-sensitive applications. In the last 15 years, a large number of techniques and software tools have been introduced to estimate the available bandwidth actively. Many of them were verified in simulation and over a limited number of Internet paths.

Bandwidth blind estimation for OFDM
2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP), 2016Traditional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) bandwidth estimation scheme can not acquire accurate estimation results in low signal to noise ratio (SNR) over multi-path channels. Besides, it acquires a great mount of computation. To deal with these problems, a novel bandwidth estimation scheme for OFDM is proposed.

On the Performance of Bandwidth Estimation Tools
2005 Systems Communications (ICW'05, ICHSN'05, ICMCS'05, SENET'05), 2005In this paper we first present a complete survey on available bandwidth estimation tools. More precisely, according to the classification proposed on IEEE Network by Prasad et al. in 2003 we categorize them in (i) end-to-end capacity estimation tools; (ii) available bandwidth estimation tools; (iii) tcp throughput and bulk transfer capacity measurement

On estimation of instantaneous bandwidth
Proceedings of Third International Symposium on Time-Frequency and Time-Scale Analysis (TFTS-96), 2002In many applications, the instantaneous frequency of the observed signal describes some physical phenomenon of interest. The instantaneous frequency can be interpreted as the mean frequency at a particular instant of time. Then it is natural to supplement any measure of the instantaneous frequency by the estimate of its instantaneous spread or ...

DETERMINING THE BANDWIDTH OF A KERNEL SPECTRUM ESTIMATE
Journal of Time Series Analysis, 1987Abstract. A cross‐validated form of Whittle's frequency domain approximation to the likelihood function of a stationary Gaussian process is described, and proposed as a criterion for choosing the bandwidth in a kernel spectrum estimate. The criterion is shown to be equivalent, in large samples, to the mean integrated squared error.

Bandwidth estimation in broadband access networks
Proceedings of the 4th ACM SIGCOMM conference on Internet measurement, 2004There has been much work on developing techniques for estimating the capacity and the available bandwidth of network paths based on end-point measurements. The focus has primarily been on settings where the constrained link can be modeled as a point-to-point link with a well-defined bandwidth, serving packets in FIFO order.

A New Mechanism for Available Bandwidth Estimation [PDF]
In this paper, a new mechanism for available bandwidth estimation is proposed to improve the estimation accuracy compared with the existing IGI(Initial Gap Increasing)/PTR(Packet Transmission Rate) mechanism. The proposed mechanism defines three cases of the difference between the average output gap and the input gap, and then reflects fully them ...

On The Effective Bandwidth Estimation In Communication Network
ECMS 2015 Proceedings edited by: Valeri M. Mladenov, Petia Georgieva, Grisha Spasov, Galidiya Petrova, 2015In this paper we apply regenerative method to estimate the required effective bandwidth (EB) of a station in an acyclic communication network. Earlier this problem for a tandem network has been addresses in [1]. We give a brief introduction to the EB theory and then discuss basic statistical methods for the EB estimation.

Bandwidth Estimation Based on MACD for DASH
2016 10th International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing (IMIS), 2016Nowadays, Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) has become very popular in streaming multimedia contents. In order to offer better user experience and cope with dynamically varying network conditions, a big challenge is to estimate precisely next segment bandwidth, which is a significant premise in determining next multimedia bitrate, especially ...
