Shareable Bandwidth Estimation on Satellite Links [PDF]

open access: yes2008 4th Advanced Satellite Mobile Systems, 2008
Satellite networks have the potentiality to guarantee ubiquitous access to the Internet. Yet, their transmission delay and errors represent still a challenge for researchers and practitioners, especially when considering TCP-based flows. Having efficient means to estimate important channel channel features such as, for instance, the available bandwidth

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Selection of the Bandwidth Matrix in Spatial Varying Coefficient Models to Detect Anisotropic Regression Relationships

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
The commonly used Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) fitting method for a spatial varying coefficient model is to select a bandwidth h for the geographic location (u, v), and assign the same weight to the two dimensions.

Optimal Bandwidth for Multitaper Spectrum Estimation

open access: yesIEEE Signal Processing Letters, 2017
A systematic method for bandwidth parameter selection is desired for Thomson multitaper spectrum estimation. We give a method for determining the optimal bandwidth based on a mean squared error (MSE) criterion. When the true spectrum has a second-order Taylor series expansion, one can express quadratic local bias as a function of the curvature of the ...

Function estimation with locally adaptive dynamic models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present a nonparametric Bayesian method for fitting unsmooth and highly oscillating functions, which is based on a locally adaptive hierarchical extension of standard dynamic or state space models.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Passive Available Bandwidth Estimation Based on Collision Probability and Node State Synchronization in Wireless Networks

open access: yesJournal of ICT Research and Applications, 2017
In wireless networks, available bandwidth estimation is challenging because wireless channels are used by multiple users or applications concurrently. In this study, we propose a passive measurement scheme to estimate the available bandwidth in 802.12 ...

Available bandwidth estimation for high quality television content [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
High quality television content such as IPTV is delivered at a high cost for network operators. Most of the time, the network capacity (maximum bandwidth) is under-utilized and therefore there is room for additional content to be placed by an IPTV ...

Elevated Connectivity During Language Processing Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in SeLECTS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (SeLECTS) is associated with language impairments despite seizures originating in the motor cortex, suggesting aberrant cross‐network interactions. Here we tested whether functional connectivity in SeLECTS during language tasks predicts language performance.
