1993We should, perhaps, recognise at the outset that ‘commercial’ and ‘investment’ banking do not exist in separate compartments. There are activities which overlap and are carried out by both types of bank, for example, accepting and discounting bills of exchange, foreign exchange and some aspects of trade finance.
